I agree but the infectivity of this thing has always been a problem but that is in a pre-vaccine world, today there will be perhaps 50,000 cases in the UK and only a tiny minority will result in hospitalisation or death. The latter two is the only thing we're interested in and there is zero data on it yet.

At the moment this thing is being reported as a vaccine buster, however I don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion yet. Almost every known case involving a vaccinated person has so far been seemingly asymptomatic, IE, 100% efficacy (as far as we know).

So really the stance can only remain the same, the vaccines will still prevent the most serious symptoms and death in most cases so get your boosters if you can.

We do need to be cautious but there's no need for alarm yet.
Exactly.

Yet someone above literally said we should have a full lockdown TODAY. It beggars belief.

There were over 50,000 cases in UK today sadly. 50,091 - up nearly 6000 on last Friday.

160 deaths

Full details on the data thread.

I also said I do not support lockdowns now in most circumstances and that it is not going to happen.

But IF in two weeks we discover this is a vaccine buster there will be one then across Christmas and nobody wants that.

But by then it will very likely be too late to stop the UK having a deadly wave that swamps the NHS.

It is on a knife edge which way this one will go and the sensible action would be to try to block it off now.

But the UK and sense these days are usually strangers.

The choice will be to hope it is not and then panic if it is.

How do we block it off though, really? If it is as transmissible as they say it is, how do we do that. The whole world would have to lock down.

Man these vaccines do they work? It's day 5 for both me and the wife. We are both fkd. Fever temp headaches. Painful!!! Son has recovered. He was the carrier. Dutch govt failed lockdown earlier and shut schools. Most cases in NL are youngsters. When will we come out of this shit period. :((( any tips on recovery pls let me know.

Well your not in hospital or dead so thats a good sign.

Most people I know who have had it though have been back to normal within 10 / 14 days. the odd outlier being a month.

Although my sister in law still doesn't have her full sense of smell or taste back yet and its been 13/14 months for her.

There are some weirdos in here I agree but I do not see anyone doing what Pannick suggests.

Name names if you dare and explain why,.

But I suspect it is just a gut reaction.

With the current situation this will either turn out to be good news or bad news but if it is bad news then the opportunity to act will be more or less gone but we will still react as the government will want to be seen to be doing something.

They have taken some precautions fast. That alone says they see the problem looming.

Nobody in their right mind welcomes this. But those in their right mind do reasonably want to consider all the options and if they might help or if we should just wait and hope the Christmas fairy brings them good news.

It is no easy call and possibly nothing we can do but hope anyway. But it is something a Covid thread right now should be debating. Not sticking fingers in ears and going la la la.

If you want to do that a Covid thread is probaby not somewhere worth visiting right now.

Ok so im so my ten days is up at 23.59 tonight, Ive just done two tests, one came up positive then the second one negative, do i have to continue with isolation and the mrs delivering cans everynight or am I ok to come out of isolation?

Depends what you take your covid R as - most figures I've seen are 3ish, but you quote 2.01. This study for instance gives 2.79 median. https://academic.oup.com/jtm/article/28/7/taab124/6346388

Not sure where your 2.01 is from (I'm not saying you're wrong), but I think we basically agree: the 500% is implausible for this variant?

I do wonder if the term "competitively infectious" is actually a different calculation entirely vs r0.

You and the chap who liked your post. It’s absolutely odd as fuck to put a summary of it. It seems to have completely taken over your life. The other chap just gets excited when we fuck up as a country.

if it gets worse it gets worse in the meantime try and live. I am off to London to the theatre for the weekend.
