Because if you have the vaccine you are 80% less likley to pass covid on, and much less likley to get ill and take up a hospital bed that could be used by someone with another illness such as cancer. Thats why. It is immensely selfish.

I'm not entirely sure that vaccines do that. I'm double vaccinated and caught it. People I live with haven't been vaccinated and never caught it. It just all seems weird. If people wanna get vaccinated great, if they don't then that's their right.

It’s pointless now. No more decisions can be made before we have some data to model on omicron.

It's never been a silver bullet in terms of 'preventing you from catching it', but it reduces the severity of the symptoms ten fold.

Look at the data as the rollout started vs hospitilisations, it's obvious.

I totally agree with you. At least we have it for 3 weeks. He can then repeat the mandate every 3 weeks if necessary.

Not even the same issue, one of them is a virus that spreads exponetially and might requite treatment within days of getting it and is totally preventable with 2 minute jab.

A smoker will not require hospitalisation for decades.

prime example, I’m at a office working , masks must be worn walking about , it people sharing kettle , fridge etc mask stops nothing

most people re use masks don’t sanitize or wash hands

They reduce the likelihood of getting it. If you don't have it, you can't pass it on.

Also, albeit somewhat less, even if you do have it, they do reduce the chance of you passing it on.

Same people would probably be outraged at to the same extent whatever the govt do. It's going to take three weeks for lab work to determine how dangerous the new variant is (or hopefully isn't). Elephant in the room is that three week marker might very well be the point at which restrictions are very much increased if worst case scenario pans out.

They will still reduce the transmission. Not prevent, but reduce.

So, for instance, *if* (very big if) the new variant were to cause a big spike in hospitalisation, that would be a smaller spike if everyone masked up. Not a silver bullet, not a game changer, but one small thing that would help a bit.

Social media probably and the government wont be banging the drum over it as its completely untrue, not even a half truth, its just as transmissible with the vaccine than without.
