For balance I will say that I don't like how work can now spread into my home life. This was well summed up here;

This can be an issue. It’s one of the biggest working from home issues.

I try to make sure my team finish work on time and do actually stop working. I close my laptop at 5.30 and I’m done. The only one that still keeps working is a younger member who I think just likes doing what she is doing. There is zero pressure on her to keep doing it but she does. If she is enjoying what she is doing and it’s not effecting her life then I’m happy to let her continue. Not that I could stop her working even if I wanted too :)

And fair play to you for being decent about it. My manager is an unorganised tyrant who would have me on until fuck knows what time. The sort who logs off at 5 and comes back on at 11 to send emails.

Why do the vaccines need 10-15 years of testing? I am hoping you can share your expertise on this issue.

I tested positive yesterday , really bad flu symptoms, I thought it was a just a case of man flu until I couldn’t taste the toothpaste ! I’ve lost all my taste and smell which is really odd. I’m double jabbed aswell

51 deaths - was 61 last Sunday

England only 40 - was 47 last Sunday

37,681 cases - was 40,004 last Sunday

England only 32,136 - was 33,513 last Sunday

Amazing what can happen when the world throws unlimited time, money and resources at something.

The biggest and longest stumbling blocks for vaccines is funding. But I'm sure you knew this anyway, being an expert in the history of vaccinations.

Yesterday 61 people on flights from South Africa to Amsterdam were positive for Covid. 13 of them with Omicron.
I get a feeling this has been around a lot longer than we realise over there.

Another massive drop! 13k cases less than a few days ago, let’s hope it continues.
Me too, but hard to judge from a Sunday and with the uncertainty of what Omicron will do.

We might ask if the recent big case rises have any Omicron influence but I assume not as we would have noticed the new variant otherwise. Without that yet to add in we would be in very good shape going into mid winter. The booster programme is pushing hospital numbers and deaths down.

All four nations are down week to week which is good news - England 1377, Scotland 500, Wales 445 and N Ireland by 1.

So far, 13 of the 61 who tested positive at Schiphol have been identified as having the Omicron variant. The testing continues.
61 seems a lot of people off two flights...

Gordon Brown getting cross.

Brown, who is the World Health Organization ambassador for global health financing, said about 100m of the vaccines held in the UK and other western countries would pass their expiry dates by Christmas and risk not being used at all.

“If you don’t get them out quickly, you’re going to lose them altogether,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “And I think what people hate most of all is waste. If you can save lives through getting these vaccines out, it’s a moral responsibility to do so, as well as being in our self-interest to prevent further outbreaks of new variants.”

61 out of the 624 people that were on those two flights. One flight was coming from Cape Town the other Johannesburg, but the RIVM has not finished testing all the samples yet. Wouldn’t surprise me if the majority of those 61 came off the Joburg flight given the number of cases in Gauteng.

I agree with Brown about getting vaccines in arms but there are similar stockpiles wasting away in Uganda and South Africa.

He's right but in regards to Africa I think loads aren't having it.

My booster is booked for December 15th. According to the advice (28 days from symptoms starting) I shouldn't actually have it until the 17th. Looking like I'm going to have difficulty re booking.
Worth winging it on the 15th? I can't see they'd be in a position to look up my notes, after all.
