I detest table service in pubs, always seems more transmission risk if staff have to take your order, bring your pint, give you change etc; far less risk if you pay at the bar, particularly if staff behind a screen and you're wearing a mask.

But I'll put up with whatever it takes to keep pubs trading in some shape.
Our Landlady was spritely on her feet, we're lazy as fuck it was the perfect combo.

I see Nicola Sturgen is blaming a Steps concert for Omnicron a concert where everyone had to be double jabbed. I'm surprised she's not blamed Bojo or the UK government. Anybody but her in fact.
Steps cones as a bit of surprise though.
She actually said: “The number of Omicron cases now being reported in Scotland is rising, and cases are no longer all linked to a single event, but to several different sources including a Steps concert at the Hydro on November 22. This confirms our view that there is now community transmission of this variant within Scotland. Given the nature of transmission we would expect to see cases rise, perhaps significantly, in the days ahead.”

I believe Steps have had to cancel tour dates as well due to cases in their tour party.

Oh no - Steps have triggered a Chain Reaction! What a Tragedy! I'm sure COVID was The Last Thing On Their Mind.

But lets not blame the artists and their benevolent sponsors who make it all possible - the good people at Jive, Sony, Warner, Polydor, Universal and BMG.

So far with cases in SA omicron doesn't seem to be infecting people's lungs..I know still early days, but a reason to be optimistic..

Is it a factor of these steep climbing outbreaks that there will be a sharp peak and rapid fall too? That might be better than one that last months but climbs more gently if so. Though I suspect there will be huge health care problems in the S.A. regions and if the world is distracted by their own waves not a lot of aid that can be offered. So the shorter the horror lingers the better perhaps.

Shorter but faster means more cases beyond hospital capacity, *if* it gets that bad.

I don't think there's any upside to rapid spread.

Wonder if it arrived there during the COP conference?

"Don’t forget immune responses are not all or nothing."

Really informative general omicron thread from Muge Cevik (St Andrews Uni), who has been very good throughout the pandemic.

Worrying signs that govt is set to repeat the exact same mistake of this time last year, and hold on until it's too late.

If the current high level of boosters isn't enough then we may just have to accept that a lot of people will die of Covid.

I don't think that will be the case but in the unlikely event it is and boosters don't even work then what could possibly be done anyway? We can't all hide away forever.

The UK is leading the rest of Europe by delivering third doses and we have had a high level of infections for several months compared to most other European countries. Shutting down the economy again isn't a option.

There is a huge difference this time.
Vaccinations + Alpha infections + Delta infections.
We will know more in a week or so.
If it's as infectious as it looks lockdown measures won't stop it much. Only vaccination and disease induced immunity will help.

Said one person (Cummings).

I think you need to take that one upstairs to the politics sub-forum ^^^

The point being if current vaccines are ineffective and even boosters don't work then there is no obvious exit. I don't think that is remotely the case but lockdown fetishists can't get enough.
