F1 Season 2021

There does seem to be a story in Perez’s car though. Was he retired to simply remove the need for Max to overtake him or was it for some other reason.

Perez was shocked on his radio when he was told to box and retire.
That is true but still nothing official.

It all just seems a little seedy.

Hamilton was clinging on for dear life on that last lap and was given a shit sandwich to deal with. One observation, why did he go wide into the corner and let Verstappen get alongside him? Alonso is the master of making his car bigger than it should be, wonder if he would have survived that onslaught?
I guess Hamilton was worried about being taken out.

The fat annoying bloke in the pink shirt said something along the lines of they were worried Perez didn’t have enough fuel to last the race and couldn’t risk him breaking down on track, was about 60-75 mins after the race whilst he was prancing about outside the stewards offices.

The main overtaking spots were on the following two straights so he was taking a normal line to try and get a decent exit.

But Verstappen went for a bold move and imo caught Hamilton unawares on a corner that he wasn't expecting Verstappen to dive down the inside of.

Somebody said yesterday that the other red bull was underweight, has any proof of that been released, I can't seem to find it anywhere?
Carpet … Under … Swept. No real reporting of anything negative which suggests that they were all happy with the result. How that can be is anybody’s guess but my over-riding sense is that they wanted it because any right-minded person could see exactly what went on.

There is the Virtual Safety Car which can be used, essentially slowing all the cars down to maintain their relative positions.

Latifi was a perfect example of when a VSC would not have been enough, and a full SC at least was needed.

The amount of debris, and attaching the crane to the car would require marshals in the middle of the track, and you need the long gap that the SC produces to do that.

In the post race show with Ted Kravitz he was outside the RB garage reporting on ‘conspiracy theories’ and that in actual fact Perez’s car had a sudden drop in fuel and water pressure. Red Bull didn’t want to risk him stopping on the track causing a further disruption so retired him from the race as a precaution. Just repeating what was reported.

Hamilton just didn't have the luxury of being able to battle Verstappen. Any crash or incident benefitted Verstappen.

If that’s the case then I do wonder what they knew about what was coming? ‘Just give me one lap, Michael’.

You literally repeated what I said. I acknowledged that he stayed out to maintain track position. However that is a gamble, one that Lewis acknowledged as well.

That initial decision was in their hands, of course they knew Max would pass but it was pretty evident that the Mercedes was the quicker car and would have been more so on fresher tyres. The reason for staying out was pretty clear, to avoid tangling / having to pass Max on the track. That is fair enough as well considering the history.

i do also believe that had that scenario played out and it was the Merc on the offensive with the tyre strategy, Masi would have released the cars. It’s not a conspiracy for Max to win the title, that’s all I’m saying.
I don’t know how else to say it, but NO!

I don’t quite understand the fallout here.

Red Bull’s strategy was to pit, expecting/hoping at some stage the safety car would be brought out or that Hamilton was forced to pit later on in the race and they could make back the time. If they hadn’t have pitted twice Hamilton wouldn’t have had such a lead.

Mercedes strategy was not to pit, to keep the lead and push on, taking the risk that Hamilton wouldn’t need to pit nor that the race would be restarted.

One strategy came good.
Yeah, you missed it ALL.

Watched the whole thing back again last night and it really was incredible. You can hear Masi on the radio all flustered and not knowing what to do. Then he speaks to Horner and comes up with that nonsense!

At least football doesn't have the audacity to broadcast David Gill telling Mike Reilly & Co. that the rags just need a last minute penalty!
