Don't forget that 40% of the US isn't vaccinated, that's over 40 million people. They also have bigger numbers of the worst COVID complicating conditions such as obesity, heart problems, diabetes etc.

COVID is perhaps the perfect storm over there and so it's obvious why more people have died in the US than anywhere else.
132m people unvaccinated give or take a few 100k

The latest primary diagnosis supplement has been released by NHS England.

This shows that the number of people in English hospitals with Covid has increased from 13,045 on January 4th to 15,026 on January 11th. A rise of 1,981.

The number of people actually being primarily treated FOR Covid has increased from 8,200 to 8,379 on the equivalent dates. A rise of 179.

This means that 91% of the increase of Covid patients in English hospitals has been incidental.

Now only 55% of Covid positive patients are being primarily treated for it.

Rather confirms that Omicron is actually a virus vaccine to the vast majority of the vaccinated upgrading their immunity to the latest and best available.
It will get rid of the problem of the unvaccinated too as most will catch it and aquire immunity without too many deaths - though any deaths will occur over a short period and will be problematic to the health service.

Yes but an unvaccinated thin person is still more at risk than a vaccinated fat person. As a vaccinated fit person I do feel rather smug.

I read an article recently making the point that we need to start thinking of it as ‘immune’ vs ‘not-immune’ as opposed to ‘jabbed’ vs ‘not-jabbed’. Without going down that rabbit hole I think that’s probably why the mandatory vax for healthcare workers won’t stand the test of time once the emergency phase is over.

England hospital numbers also fall for third day running.

Patients down 172 to 16,716 - that is just 658 up on last Thursday. It was nearly 3000 up on last week on Monday and the gap has closed daily.

Both London and North West were down. As were most places. The highest riser was East up just 18.

Ventilators fell again too by 6 to 666. Down 96 from 762 last week.

These are all looking very positive. Given what was happening this time last year.

England hospitals 13 Jan 2021 v 13 Jan 2022

Patients 32,689 (rising daily) V 16,716 (falling daily). Peaked in 2021 at 34,336 five days later on 18 Jan.

Ventilators 3307 (rising daily) V 666 (falling daily). Peaked in 2021 at 3736 eleven days later on 24 Jan

Looking at today's cases it's safe to say we're heading in the right direction. After a few more weeks of this then we really should have reached herd immunity and entered the endemic phase of COVID by Spring.

No chance the majority of cases produce a negative test on Day 5. Seems like they want to be seen doing something whilst not actually doing anything.
What it means in reality is we can all blag it and come out after 5 days, just the government can’t admit it.

It’s the correct thing to do, very few people will be infectious 5 days after symptoms begin.

If you don't mind me asking, how did it go for your mum, mate ?

She’s fine mate, thanks for asking. Obviously the 3 jabs will have helped enormously but I guess there must be something genetic too as she had identical symptoms to me, just a runny nose & bit of sneezing.

My biggest issue, which is funny, is she thinks she has to isolate until she provides a negative lateral flow. She’s on day 12 now since symptoms started but doesn’t matter how many times I tell her or send links she thinks she has to stay in. She said to me last night she’d had a nurse on the phone, lol, who was obviously some muppet from track and trace, and when they ask has she had symptoms she says no, she thinks symptoms are if you are in need of a ventilator and not just the sneeze and runny nose. I despair, but at end of day it’s not the end of the world if she stays in a few more days.

That's good to hear. She sounds like a cracker, who's ready to put others first, before herself.

Whenever people say that they don’t factor in the government’s job of making people less of a risk… imagine trying to get the millions of overweight people in Britain to lose weight enough and quickly enough to protect against the virus.

It’s never going to happen but a jab that takes 15 mins per person has been shown to be very achievable.

I hope even the less geeky blue mooners can enjoy this animation of antibody levels of the last 12 months.

Watch the initial vax campaign, subsequent waning then the boosters come through.

An interesting article on Russian Flu 1890 on
They reckon it was a Coronavius in cattle that jumped species to humans - repeated waves in the run up to Christmas in the following years.

So, we both have it. My son and wife stayed over Xmas and New Year, got it 1st day home now we have it
We've had booster, so don't feel too bad just very very lethargic and constantly tired, zero energy.
Hope it doesn't get worse and hope my dick doesn't shrink like that bloke in America.
@idahoblues ?
