Ah That Ken Early… who earlier (boom tish) this season typed this almost complete opposite piece…

or after the opening day of the season

Ha ha ! You have to laugh. Apart from the mandatory City bingo, I liked;

"Even Jack Grealish is hardly worth watching these days. The most exciting footballer of last season has been subsumed into the City system as a kind of glorified ballboy whose role is to stand on the sideline and pass it quickly to the main man, João Cancelo"

Wonder if he's ever actually seen us play or just writes his articles after visiting the Caf or RAWK

Oh, a positive City article. I'll give it a chance.

I'll read on......

Liverpool are the only ones holding a candle to the champions designate, though they do not have a Gulf state’s wealth underpinning them. City did not even feel the need to make much of the fact that they overtook Manchester United’s annual commercial revenues for the first time last week.

The old Skool Hacks down in London just love Liverpool don't they. The enduring candle lit romance of a club that isn't 'underpinned by a Gulf state's wealth'.

It is complimentary and he does list the positives which make us stand out, the interesting one for me was the transfer focus on technically gifted 40-70m players, I haven’t seen that highlighted in the papers before.
But, guardian columnists always qualify praise in any article which is positive about the team or club with references to city being owned by a state or ethics etc. Wilson always.
Perhaps it’s because they’re columnists rather than sports reporters so they feel the need to add politics, but to me it sounds a bit cheap and unnecessary when the thrust of the column isn’t Conn style and about our dirty oil money. Don’t have my knickers in a twist about it though and perhaps it’s just negativity bias that draws my attention to it.
We’ll see how they feel about human rights when they’re all off to Qatar for a month.

I posted this earlier, Ronay's use of the word "irresistible" does not mean what you think it means....

Irresistible?

Don't get carried away, it has more than one meaning....

too powerful or convincing to be resisted.

They used to call the Wehrmacht irresistible.

Ronay doesn't mean it as a compliment.
I did see your response first time round.
You are right that the word has more than one meaning but I’m not sure your interpretation is the correct one given the rest of the sentence in which it sits.

Also ithe same article he writes of the “sensory pleasure of watching this champion City team in action, its beguiling patterns, its architectural beauty, its simple sporting virtues, the collectivism, the selfless energy, the way players are coached and improved”.
Maybe you don’t think he means that as a compliment?
At the end of last season he wrote of our title being a triumph of class and refinement.
Maybe you don’t think means that as a compliment?
Sure he says things that I disagree with as well, and also other things that I either wish he didn’t say or which touch a bit of a nerve. I don’t think though that those things mean he is part of a vast media conspiracy who want to see us fail.

Anyway, I’ve now realised what I so rarely bother to dip into the Media Thread. Life is too short. I’ve been supporting City since the late 60s and seen some real dross at times, and often have read papers for a week without even a mention of City. Maybe the old adage is true that the only think worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

Too much bullshit on the BBC and many of the papers this morning, all full of the same diatribe about scousers being able to catch us. They’re just clutching at straws to appease the sheep that still buy and believe the bollocks peddled by these gobshites.

If the gap were in their favour, I’d bet that not one media outlet would be behind us turning it round, despite our track record of doing so before.

Strangest thing ive ever seen.. On the Buses now with Olive wearing a City scarf and matching curlers.
Also red and black stripe shirt making an appearance.

Funny you should say that, every time I read one of these articles, I have a mental image of the journalist concerned, shaking his fist in impotent rage like Blakey and shouting "I hate you City".

the romance of a Wall Street hedge fund….

Ah, the narrative has changed after one home win against Brentford from City too far ahead spoiling football to Liverpool can catch us heavy metal football amazing.

8pts ahead isn't game over and I don't think any of us thought it was. Let the media do their thing for now, they'll get fed up again the moment Liverpool drop points.

Funny how yooman rights only comes into it when we’re talking about brown people.

Imagine if the USA happened to be in the Middle East with their record of institutional racism, police brutality, state corruption, conservative religious fanaticism, national obsession with weapons, a recent president who tried to incite a coup after he was voted out, a history of intelligence services dark ops kidnap and torture on foreign soil, etc etc

Would American owners been tarred with the same brush? Probably.

The “oil money” “gulf state” tropes are lazy racist slurs and they need calling out as such.

Take a bow Herbert you fucking prick, great use of candle in that article.

Garth Crook's team of the week.
Comment in Chelsea game just before we scored:

"At this point in the match there was precious little difference between the teams and for my money a draw would have been a very fair result"

Really???
Chelsea had one shot on target the whole game!!

Also how does the Aston Villa player, Jacob Ramsey not get in his team but Coutinho, who was only on for 22 mins, gets in the team. Crazy stuff.

I think it’s still 11points, they’ve not won their game in hand yet.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
But he can always stick to the League of Ireland or those weird Gaelic sports rather than football in a foreign country.
That's what annoys me. The facilities in Ireland are so bad that any half decent kid would sign for a Scottish lower league club before staying at home. You would think he would save save his outrage for that state of affairs, but he probably prefers following Liverpool and supporting whoever the opposition is against England.
