Arriving in June: if River don't make the L16 of the Copa.
Arriving in Jan: (post WC) if they do.

If how I see it.

If Jesus is sold or an offer arrives in summer, they take it and bring him over in June.

Summer 23 is in the article with no reasoning.
My guess would be him ending up here in the summer or not will have more to do with potential outgoings from our team and our success to bring in one of our main striker targets, rather than River Plates progression in Copa Libertadores. If Sterling/Mahrez/similar leaves or if we fail to bring in Håland/Kane, he will probably end up here in the summer regardless if River are still in that tournament or not. Hence the 1.5M clause making sure we can bring him here in the summer even if River progress to the knockout stages exists. If neither leaves, and we sign Håland or Kane, I reckon there is a good chance he could stay at River even if they fail to qualify for the knockout stages.

It's worth looking at Moreno's record before signing for us though. Just in terms of games played, he managed 9, 17 and 1 league games in the three seasons before we bought him, and 43 games in total, so he was quite obviously still a youngster breaking through. That's different to Alvarez, who played 45 games scoring 22 goals in a stronger league last year. While young, he's an established member of the first team. Far more similar to Jesus.
Good point, I didn’t realise he was so inexperienced. Bottom line, if Pep wants Alvarez, I don’t think many would baulk at the idea. Not the signing most would have wanted (if this is instead of Haaland) but a work in progress like Jesus.

you really don't have to have followed world football *that* much to have heard of this lad in the last year

Watching City , every other premier league game live, a couple of Italian games a week, the academy on City +, International matches, a bit of Spanish football forgive me if my South American knowledge is a bit woeful -;)

And we do have posters with an encyclopedic knowledge of South America to rely on. I had heard of his name but know little about him, similarly Issa Kabore, only watched him very recently

The actual deal is the following Manchester City have bought Julian alvarez for US $ 24.25 million but he stays at River until the season ends unless we lose in the eight finals of the Libertadores in July. If River make the quarter finals He will stay in Argentina unless City pay an extra US $ 1.7 million. The City group have offered 50% of Valentin Castellanos to River for US $ 7.5 million at the same time.As regards South American players and poverty I can tell you that Alvarez is from a middle class family and is highly educated. One final thing is that River Plate is the only club in the World with its own University as well as second level education and many of the youth players avail of this
Good shout about education.
I'm very pleased City takes a detailed look not only at the player's technical and physical qualities but to a high degree at the personality of new players. Obviously we want outstanding attitude, mentality, self-motivation and the list goes on. Look through our squad. It's the reason why we are where we are now.

Look at utd and you see the difference. I think we can be relaxed as we know we can trust Txiki and all the others involved to find top quality for a team that wants to win every single match no matter where and when. This young fella must have met requirements somehow, if he breaks through on a different continent and culture is a different matter. I wish him all the best.

We're signing him to secure his signature now. City know they don't have space in their squad to add an attacker as it stands. We're waiting until a space opens up and then drafting Alvarez in.

We have 2 spare squad spaces just now. Mendy's and Torres leaving. We might not have them in the summer, who knows.

Whatever the reasons for not bringing him in now, squad spaces are certainly not one of them.

It is and it's part of the reason City were so reluctant to sign Ronaldo. We have too many attackers, we sold Torres because we didn't need that many attackers. Sterling, Jesus and Mahrez have less than 18 months left on their deals, Alvarez is about future planning. Securing a guy we rate very highly for an unbelievable price in the anticipation that we'll soon be losing attackers.

I don't buy in to all this loaning back shit, if we've signed him, weve signed him, get him over here. put him with the first team squad,
having training with the kids ie. Palmer, McAtee, Kayka, etc. He can always have the odd game with the EDS lads.
...he's the best player currently in the entire continental south america and is about to turn 22

what the fuck are people talking about?
