Russian invasion of Ukraine

Anyone here got friends that live in the Ukraine who can tell us the real story?

So far I'm being told:

Russia will invade this week.

UK are training civilians via an armed force with links to Nazi organisations.

Ukrainians and Russians are laughing at the west losing their shit over a US staged propaganda exercise.

The joys of misinformation.

Some 'reputable' news outlets aren't much better.

The Baltic nations joined following Putin’s annexation of Crimea. The ’Gardens‘ of the USSR definitely didn’t want to go back to oppressed states.

Edit: the above was stated in a befuddled mind, the issues regarding the eFP followed the annexation, not NATO membership.

That’s the way I’ve heard it -the prospect of the Russains suddenly bombing the crap out of the Ukraine when there’s hundreds of thousands of their Relatives settled there since the days of the USSR is bizarre. Vox Pops in both Countries have said pretty much this. The Countries have a shared history for god sake dating back a thousand years.

The 'nazi organisation' is an anti-russian rebel group (Azov battalion)that were backed by Obama and VP Biden back in 2014 - least worst rather than best choice, a bit like the Mujahedeen in 80's Afghan I suppose. What can possibly go wrong....

Had a friend who was working on some TV series in Ukraine recently and she said there is an element of 'people ignoring the problem until it's at their doorstep'. Most of the locals probably inside know it's an issue, but what are they suppsed to do - crumble down in anxiety and fall apart?

Humans are very good at ignoring things until it it's absolutely last minute serious.

I don't think Russia is going to bomb the shit out of them.

My personal take on it is that if Russia decides to move in, there will be little push back from Ukraine and they will just back down. Theres no point in mass casualties.

I never I was concerned, I understand why they don't want a land border with a NATO country though, seems like they're the ones doing the most invading since it was set up.

You are correct, my comment was a complete brain-fart (sorry, looking at other stuff). The Baltic states wanted to prove that they were democracies at the time and move away from the Soviet Union. The cyber attack in 2007 got my dates mixed up.

What does spring out is that Russia has lived with the ‘threat’ of NATO on their doorstep for nearly 20 years and only now is it an issue.

Does the Ukraine doing well in a democratic society have an impact on a country that have no option other than Putin?
