Spurs (H) - Post-Match Thread

Agreed we are very limited to players who can change games recently. Even at that Delap should have been used tonight at some stage. He could of made a difference, Whipping balls into Foden and Bernardo Silva all night wasn't our brightest move. I don't think they are tall enough to tickle Dier's balls never mind beat him in the air.
Yep, appalling tactics

Crazy over reaction here, every campaign has a result like this and every team does but for City they are few and far between hence City are top. As good as City are they aint going to win every game, 6 points clear is a great position to be in. Plus for me today was Mahraz, to come on late in the game to put away a peno was top class and is vital in the coming weeks we now have a peno taker we can fully rely upon. The players will be far more hurting than we are and will put this minor blip right very quickly. Although games like this show the need for a natural finisher in the team, games like this badly need this.

Correct when pep goes they’ll be a lot more of these games and losses none of this 14+ premier wins on the bounce we watching history and not had so good.

But when he’s with John Boy he isn’t. Just my thought could be right or wrong. Let’s face it anyone can have an off day. :-( :-)
Poor playing offside decision and the header back into a dangerous area was fuckwittery. Could have been playing alongside Baresi or a chuckle brother.

Bad day at the office.

I get he’s a stubborn fucker but he didn’t even try to sure us up defensively today, then the Laporte up front is just baffling, especially with no players warming up.
My mood wasn’t helped by some dickhead reversing into my van on the way out.
Yeah, that just compounds the shit show, hopefully damage isn’t too severe?

He’s to be rightly elevated at his genius but when Helen Keller can see we’re overrun on the flanks, he should also be called out on failing to react at a more than easy fix… couldn’t fathom it but I’m sure we’ll react, however, giving the dippers hope isn’t what we wanted and it means more hard miles than may of been needed!

Liverpool are 6 pounts behind us and have a game in hand. We have th better defence and our attack is just as good. city have proven time and again that were capable of going to the wire and winning. This team aren't bottlers at all!

I've seen this game a few times now with Pep and it's his huge Achilles heal. How many times have teams had 5 shots and scored 3 of them etc whilst we have 25 shots and 1 goal.

The difference today was Kane. If he'd had been on our side we'd have won. It's really as simple as that. He was superb.

I didn't understand the crossed into the box when we didn't have anyone - like Kane - who could get on the end of them. We really lack a Plan B when we need it. Sometimes we need something else.

To concede so easily after the penalty was criminal. Full marks to Mahrez but defensively we were appalling. Proper headless chickens. It was shocking just how easy it was.

I do think today was a bad day in the office. Spurs are a tricky side with a good manager so I can take it, but Pep HAS to get to grips with being sucker punched. This style of losing stops us from winning the lot.

Echo:

Liverpool fans are saying the same thing about how this result means Liverpool will win the next 20 league titles.

To lose at home to Spurs is one thing, but to lose at home to THIS Spurs team is a real sickener! This result has GOT to be a wake up call!!!
Another one who really doesn’t understand how football works or has knowledge of non city players.

Neither of these posts are true btw. He was poor and far from his usual standards but far from alone and to call him finished is nonsensical
I didn't say he was finished. I meant he played today like a player in his last hurrah. He's a long way from finished, but I honestly don't see him as a guaranteed 'first choice' for much longer with the competition in the squad. He's a 30/40 minute player for me.

I think today is the first time in a while we seem to be really suffering for our squad size. We've had other matches recently where the bench has looked threadbare, but today the players on the pitch looked tired and jaded.

We've got the cover at CB so if the Dias/Laporte performances today were due to tiredness then that's down to an uncharacteristic lack of rotation. We have four very good centre-backs who've all been uninjured and available for weeks. Whoever's playing there in any given match should be fit and focused and motivated.

The fullback positions are more problematic. If Walker's unfit or out of form then our only option is to switch Cancelo to what I guess is now his second-best position, meaning we need to replace him at LB, or we play Stones at RB and although he's been great there lately I don't think it's a long-term solution. LB is a little better as we have Zinchenko as back up (or Ake/Laporte if they're not already at CB).

Rodri is a real concern. Fernandinho seems to still be capable of occasional top-level performances, but he's obviously approaching the end of his career and he can't just step in whenever. That leaves us needing Rodri to play almost every match and it's simply not doable, no-one could perform the way we need him to that regularly.

KDB and Gundogan are both incredible players capable of making a real difference, but as they age and tire they're both increasingly likely to drop a poor performance where they seem to be out of step with the rest of the team. The only other player Pep seems to trust in either of those 8 roles is Bernardo, who's played so much and so hard all season that he's now clearly exhausted. And we've got to bear in mind that we have to fill the false 9 spot with one of those three or Foden, too (the other options there being currently unavailable).

Losing Jesus, Grealish and Palmer to injury all at the same time would affect any team's front line. Mahrez and Sterling are both in good form so it's not as bad as it could be, but if we want to rest either of them, or they're on the pitch and it's not working out we have very few options right now to change things up. And Foden seems to be really struggling with the sheer amount of positional flexibility that's being asked of him.

This squad is incredible on its day but as people have been saying for ages, we need an L/RB, a CDM and a striker - whether players we buy or players moving up from the academy, it doesn't matter, but it has to be someone good enough that they can actually start some PL games. And if Pep's long-term plan is, as reports have suggested for a while, for Foden and/or Grealish to move into those 8 positions, we need to start giving them some game-time there.

Looked like half the team were still shitting themselves from the landing on Wednesday night.
Kane took the piss out off all 4 defenders.
Time to rest Foden and must play Mahrez from the off.

Agreed, Foden doesn't deserve to play at the moment with very mediocre performances.

Last season he was moved around to difference positions so I don't see that as an excuse.
