Russian invasion of Ukraine

You mean like an Australian controlled migration policy.
The bureaucracy needs to be sorted quickly but the refugees that are applying are in a safe country for now. Its not ideal for them. Hopefully Patel can get her arse into gear and get it moving promptly.
And same for anyone anywhere in the world fleeing a war zone or persecution.

No shit. Still, as long as we get the forms filled in, filed, processed and then we can fret about everyone else responding by fucking off the rules and the forms.

Makes you proud to be British.

They are used to hardship like someone else alluded to.
Those under 30 certainly aren't, they're just like here, and want everything that's nice yesterday.

The older ones that can remember before the USSR fell in 1991 will be OK, but even by then things had improved considerably from 10 years earlier, when they queued for bread, which they will be doing again in weeks.

You only have to think back 2 years here to see how panic can set in very quickly, those under 30 will start hoarding, then the older folk won't be able to get what they want, it will spiral down very quickly imho. Sadly it might do the same here to a degree, as prices of everything climb steeply.

Presumably you'll not be voting conservative at the next election then after this, and rewriting the laws on refugees to go against every other country in the world last year...
Major difference between the Ukrainian refugees and migrants at Calais
1) Ukraine's refugee columns are composed of women, children, babies in arms and old people. By contrast many migrant columns have been almost exclusively men c. age 25.
2) Ukraine is physically next to Poland and Hungary, who have taken them is as they seek refuge in the nearest safe country. They have not crossed half a dozen time zones before making a claim.

This could lead to nuclear war. NATO is there to protect its members, and Russia will never attack NATO members for the reason it would result in retaliation. By contrast, Ukraine is not in NATO. Is Ukraine worth nuclear war? Is NATO now expected to fight potential nuclear wars on behalf of non-members?

1 is bullshit anti-refugee propaganda, see the makeup of the boat who drowned last year. We reject everyone, not just 25 y/o men.

2 is just nonsense? Obviously the Ukrainian refugees stranded in Calais right now have crossed "a dozen timezones" before making a claim, we don't share a border with Ukraine.

Also neither of those has anything to do with the fact this government & Priti Patel is doing everything possible to stop Ukrainian refugees arriving *and* rewrote the refugee policy to fuck over as many legitimate refugees as possible.

These are the policies you voted for, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

Strategic Badger following an intel update.

"The fact is that RUS is having some success, and while they’ve lost a sizable amount of personnel and equipment, it’s only a small percentage of the total they brought.

While each UKR loss, especially of their regular soldiers and pilots, is irreplaceable."

Only thing is Western sanctions will end up hurting the West too. Russian adults are used to hardship, shortages and sacrifice. Westerners have meltdowns if they can't get everything delivered immediately.
You may be right, but we'll just have to get used to it.
I was brought up in the 50s when everybody but the well off had to make the choice between heating and eating. The bedroom I shared with my bro was like a fridge, frost on the inside in winter.. We had a coal fire in the front room which was not lit until teatime and which was our total heating system. This was commonplace. And the food was awful.
We have all gone soft.

It wasn't just the fifties. In the sixties as a kid we lived in the old terraced houses in Hulme.Outside toilet, freezing cold. Coal fire in the living room, no bathroom it was a sink in the kitchen and a tin bath in the living room. In a bout of prolonged rain once the ceiling collapsed on me while I was in bed.

Moved to Wythenshawe still freezing, frost on the inside of bedroom windows, no central heating. My dad got up at 5am for work and used to light the calor gas heater on the stairs on the landing to try and warm the bathroom and bedrooms up before we got up. The good old days.

Late 60s, I lived in just such a terrace as a student. Attic bedroom was luxurious if you were a polar bear. And it's still there!

Watching the news, 600 Ukrainians in Calais trying to get to the UK, our beurocracy and paper work delaying them, being told to go to Paris or Brussels for the correct paperwork, for fuck sake our government pull your fucking fingers out you useless cunts and get these people here, our government are fucking useless.
