Russian invasion of Ukraine

Theres people on here who just think ukraine could continue throwing themselves at bullets to stop Russia.

It simply won't happen, they are running out of food there and coming to terms with them is better than this ongoing fucking mess.
Thank fuck there aren't people like you in Ukraine.

The first lady of Ukraine has published an open letter condemning "the mass murder of Ukrainian civilians".
Olena Zelenska writes that it was "impossible to believe" the Russian invasion would happen and it has created "a horrific reality" for millions, especially children.
But she also hails the defiance of Ukraine's people: "The aggressor, Putin, thought that he would unleash blitzkrieg on Ukraine. But he underestimated our country, our people, and their patriotism."
"While Kremlin propagandists bragged that Ukrainians would welcome them with flowers as saviours, they have been shunned with Molotov cocktails," she writes.
Expressing her gratitude for international support and relief efforts, Zelenska calls on the global media and the rest of the world to "keep showing what is happening here and keep showing the truth".
"If we don't stop Putin, who threatens to start a nuclear war, there will be no safe place in the world for any of us."

Thank fuck they are putting up a fight, cos if they'd have just rolled over after 3 days and putin took the full country, he would have thought 'well that was easy, what country next' now the ****'s got a problem on his hands and he's rapidly running out of money he won't be planning any further expansions anytime soon.
Good possibility China will be rethinking their Taiwan plans I would imagine too

You may be right, but we'll just have to get used to it.
I was brought up in the 50s when everybody but the well off had to make the choice between heating and eating. The bedroom I shared with my bro was like a fridge, frost on the inside in winter.. We had a coal fire in the front room which was not lit until teatime and which was our total heating system. This was commonplace. And the food was awful.
We have all gone soft.
Hi Marcus ;-)

If China think they can do what they want the West will realign their policies, go back to producing their own and look to isolating China.

Russia is small change in the big scheme of things and we’re looking at the bigger picture.

Yes I've had the dreaded e mail too. It's ridiculous the government's isn't doing more to alleviate this. A windfall tax on the obscene profits made by the energy companies and cutting vat would help.
What is worrying is these price hikes are based on the rise in fuel BEFORE the Russians invaded Ukraine.

They could be peanuts compared to what is to come!

Do you know how this will impact the average Russian in practical terms?
Their money is devaluating with inflation and they can't but another stable currency to mitigate the losses. Everything they import will be rocketing as it is, and it will be a case of paying for your Vodka when ordering in the bar rather than on the way out when the price has shot up.

Eventually there will be hyper inflation if the war continues, and Russia runs out of trading partners, the country will be in debt an they will print money without the economic resources to back the currency up, and then everyone's savings become worthless rubble.
