Russian invasion of Ukraine

Their money is devaluating with inflation and they can't but another stable currency to mitigate the losses. Everything they import will be rocketing as it is, and it will be a case of paying for your Vodka when ordering in the bar rather than on the way out when the price has shot up.

Eventually there will be hyper inflation if the war continues, and Russia runs out of trading partners, the country will be in debt an they will print money without the economic resources to back the currency up, and then everyone's savings become worthless rubble.
So, are you in favour of Ukraine or Russia?

Agree. I would add that all sorts of things will start to disappear from shops. Foreign business's will close and the economy will start to stall. It will take some time but literally millions could lose their jobs. Putin could create jobs and print money to pay them but if there is nothing to buy its worthless. The ruble value will fall as fast as they can print it. Eventually the black market and foreign currency overtakes the official economy. Public sector jobs are paid in worthless currency and at that point the state tends to collapse. All depends on the extent to which they can become self sufficient and endure hardship.

That's (a) not true, thousands of Russians are leaving every day while they can
Well in a couple of weeks time they won't be as the aviation industry will grind to a halt there.
(b) not the point, unlinking the currency essentially makes the ruble worthless, it will be like Venezuelan dollars.
Yes I'm aware of that, so there will be no point going anywhere anyway as they'll have no money to spend when they get there, unless they have other currencies stashed away in a pillow.

Only the educated or wealthy ones are leaving and erm they don’t matter as they believe the lies of the lying free press over the beacon of truth & integrity that is Kremlin TV.

....all your educated and wealthy people leaving is a massive problem in any economy.
Didn’t Stalin have them all shot in the 1930s? Maybe Putin will be happy to follow in his footsteps. He’ll get less pushback from poorer less educated people than he will from people who are more likely not to take Kremlin propaganda as gospel.

Glasnost re-created them bigger and better - there was a point where Putin still had them - not sure about the intellectuals but I do think the rich and their power out numbers him and as the noose tightens across the world on a lot of the nouveau riche his support dwindles and his days will be numbered. Imagine you are a close protection officer getting paid in a currency is worth less than dirt and you are told by someone to step aside and let them off him..... what would you do?

p.s. that change in your wage and savings has taken place very quickly and its still heading south....

Here's a quote when the story broke March 1:

Sixteen MiG-29 planes and 14 SU-25s could be provided by Bulgaria. Poland will send 28 MiG-29 warplanes, and Slovakia can deliver 12 MiG-29 planes, the officials stated.
With that would have to be all the logistical support, otherwise they'd worth no more than any of the Russian equipment that cannot be repaired or has run out of fuel.

Jerusalem Post

"The real negotiations, according to the sources, are happening directly between Russia and Ukraine and are much more serious than what the West has been saying. Kyiv has not shared with the West what has been going on in the negotiations since they do not want to damper the worldwide sense of emergency."

I find this a little hard to believe, considering the amount of arms and support the west are giving Ukraine in this war against Russia. They may not actually be at the negotiating table, but not being privy to what is being negotiated, surely not?

Woke up to news that Ukraine will not be getting the Migs from Poland. Very disappointed to here that.

Shapps on TV now saying it's because NATO don't want to be seen for escalating things by providing these weapons. Pity the interviewer didn't ask what's the difference between what weaponry is provided to Ukraine and why doesn't what NATO has already given not escalate things.

Oh, and FFS government stop answering every question with " the UK was first".

Edited to remove the typo :)
