Liverpool FA Cup s/f (N) | Post Match Thread

Yep. Today stung, as I feel we've underperformed in the FA Cup since we were founded back in 2008. 2 wins, and a losing final, isn't a great return in those 14 years. Looking at the big picture, though, the cup was clearly only 3rd on a list of 3 priorities. If we go on to win the big two pots, this afternoon won't even be a footnote in the season.

But, as of now, it hurts.
I remember getting a text from my ERO during a game at The Etihad. "What's goin' on? he said! We were three down to Liverpool after about half an hour!

Don’t go and not seen as had stuff on today but how many times In the last few years have we thrown a semi of the fa cup by playing a weaker team?
Seems absolutely madness to me to play Stefan - knew as soon as I saw the team that we would get beat. Glad I didn’t bother going.

So what if City and Jack Grealish lift the Premier League and Champions League this season whilst Liverpool win the wo domestic cups, Who will have the better transfer policy?
Wouldn’t have it any other way, we all want that, but as it stands there are teams out there who have a better transfer policy than us. I like JG and believe he will come good next season, but it will have to be some jump to justify the money spent (not his fault btw) it did feel like a commercial signing, you only have to listen to the shrieks when he plays for England & his popularity despite not really achieving much with the national team. Someone previously alluded to the second half papering over the cracks, I’d say it was Pep doing that, I’m not sure any other manager would get better results with this set of players

The criticism of some is over the top. Pep played the reserve goalie as he always does in cup games as it's a promise made to them to keep them involved throughout the season. Was a bad error for the second goal, not sure how much at fault he was for the third. It wasn't Pep's poor team selection. It was a patched up team after a gruelling midweek game, we couldn't keep the same midfield or defence so gambled and lost. We still created chances we should have buried. To some extent it was a bit predictable looking at the side before the game. But his hand was forced by burn out and injury and we've managed games before with unfancied line ups. Hopefully that's the weakest team put out for the rest of the season. Look at the trophies and points we've won recently. A shit game every now and then happens, shame it's Wembley and against the dippers.

Overall I think Pep was willing to sacrifice this tie to ensure we get the league and have a strong go at the champions league. With a tight schedule and the likelihood of injuring players (two most recently against Atletico) does the FA Cup REALLY matter?

Don't get me wrong, you have to laugh at them celebrating the win as if it's an annihilation - without the obvious keeper error and a bit more luck up top were winning or at least on to ET. We played a safe, weaker team and ultimately were beaten narrowly.

FA Cup does matter absolutely. It has far more history than the Champions League

Shit performance today, can't pick a motm everybody off it. First half was a complete disgrace and Pep must've given them a right bollocking. Second half slightly better but still pretty wank. Liverpool fans were pretty sound today, maybe because there weren't many true scousers present. Must win against Brighton now, no fucking excuses

I thought fern looked well off the pace. Sat too deep and didn't have the drive to get us out. We got punished for not being able to play it out. Same when we had tried to press it was often fern who was sat back. He's been great but we paid the price today for his aging legs.

Sterling also poor. Finishing is not good enough. Thatvfree kick summed up his game.
Sterling is fucking atrocious, needs to go this summer. I've said it a million times, needs to go abroad

Disgusting from our fans who disrespected the minutes silence.shame on you. Fair result. Bad day at the office. Our fans were very quite today. Totally out sung

The CL isn't in our trophy room. It also pays x30 as much as the FA Cup. We are a worldwide club with a worldwide fanbase now. Do you think our fans in Asia etc would prefer the FA Cup over the league or the CL?

All trophies are important. But it's quite simply not the priority, especially for Pep it seems.

I couldn't careless what fans in Asia want. Club only wants to win the CL to sell shirts. CL was created to appease the cartel.
