Russian invasion of Ukraine

From a ruSSian point of view it’s probably the most sensible tactic and one they can all live with because they have no fucking decency. They make the steelworks “out of scope” and declare victory in Mariupol.

Not allowing the civilians and wounded to be evacuated is grotesque but we’ve come to expect nothing less, noble or decent from these horrid cunts.

It's the most sensible point of view from everyone's perpsective if you spend 5 seconds thinking about it instead of going off like this is a video game and the only goal is to kill Russians.

A frontal assault would kill loads of Ukrainian civilians and military. Not just any military, but some of Ukraine's most experienced and battle hardened.

The siege is going to mean the Ukrainians decide the timetable of defeat which keeps the possibility of a rescue or resupply open until the last possible moment, and it means many will surrender and eventually get recycled back to Ukraine just like thousands of POW already have.

The brits haven’t been exchanged back yet have they? They’ve been paraded on the box by the Kremlin because it’s great propaganda- here are NATO troops see we told you. No one knows the fate of the others who have surrendered, their not such value to the Kremlin. You think the ruSSians won’t execute 1500 Ukrainian’s? I wish I shared your faith in them but when they’ll gun down an old woman and bloke in a car I don’t think their moral compass points anywhere near as true as yours.

There's been 6 POW exchanges with hundreds going both ways.

A full on assault will end up with a lot of dead Ukrainians civilian and military.

The head of the Azovs in Mariupol said they were out of ammo over a week ago so this isn’t going to be a fair fight or heroic last stand like @metalblue seems to be picturing.

Would be great if they could all escape, they’ve earned that right but I’ve no issue with them being left alone and being provided with foot and water. No one has to perform heroic acts for my, or anyone else’s, entertainment. But alas Putin has ordered they be starved to death. They’ll undoubtedly have to come out fighting in the end unless they can be re-supplied.

I hope for their sakes your version of events play out. The orders are not a fly is to come through - maybe, just maybe, Putin means only in.

Sieges are a legal form of warfare and every military in the world has used them for millenia.

The Ukrainians are choosing to stay in the steelworks to tie up Russian troops and delay a victory as long as possible. Its admiriable and going to be very unpleasant but they could have escaped long ago.

Just 2 days ago they went out and rescued 500 soldiers from elsewhere in the City and smuggled them into the steelworks, so they can still escape if they choose to, but they're going to wait out as long as possible.

Erm. A large group of marines tried to escape Mariupol about two days ago, fate of troops unknown but stated by Russians as failed. So no, they can’t escape if they choose to.

Oh well if Russian media says so.
The deputy major of mariupol is on the tv every single day with updates, strange view of the war you have , about a thousand civilians in there are being starved to death along with the soldiers , cute you think putin will let them out alive

I just listened to the mayor of mariupol announce that another 200 civilians are being bussed out of Mariupol this afternoon, 100 yesterday and a few thouand in the last few days. They're hoping to get up to 6,000 out if the agreement keeps standing, which it has so far. Those are real people, being let out. Alive.

Having unfortunately read a lot of your posts I am fairly confident I have a more informed view of the war than you.

In the steel works we were talking about , sealed in with the soldiers

Most agreed corridors are renaged on by the russians , you know that right ? They have killed tens of thousands of civillians in the town , the city no longer exists , shot up cars and buses of civillians trying to flee

like i say, cute

Yes, the mayor just said there's 300 civilians in there than can't get out today.

Until now it's not been sealed off and people having been moving in and out, like the 500 soldiers who moved in yesterday after a skirmish.

The fundamental misunderstanding here is that you seem to think it's a hostage situation, and haven't grasped that the Ukrainians are perfectly happy to be holed up in the steel plant dragging out the battle of Mariupol.

Given the choice to leave freely or stay, the soldiers in the Azovstal plant will stay, because they don't want to concede the City.

A skirmish? 500 soldiers? It was 500 strong unit of border guards and police who had run out of ammo. The area had seen fierce fighting for several days presumably by said police and border guards.

You seem to think the remaining Ukrainians are free to up and leave whenever they see fit. And you accuse others of thinking it’s some sort of video game!!!

Americans really stepping up with regard to weapons. They clearly think Ukraine can win this conflict.

President Biden's new $800 million military aid package to Ukraine: Pentagon readout

• 72 155mm Howitzers and 144,000 artillery rounds;
• 72 Tactical Vehicles to tow 155mm Howitzers;
• Over 121 Phoenix Ghost tactical drones
• Field equipment and spare parts

The Phoenix Ghost is a tactical drone similar to the Switchblade, but with some different capabilities: senior U.S. defense official

The U.S. Air Force developed it in line with Ukraine's needs. It will require some training for Ukrainian troops.

U.S. has now provided enough artillery systems to equip five Ukrainian battalions, 100 155mm howitzer systems in two weeks: Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby.’
