He’s played more minutes than any other outfield player and clearly needs a rest yet Pep has flogged him into the ground. And then we get the usual reactionary bollocks on here about how he’s shit. I despair

I agree that Cancelo looks knackered but Pep hasn't had much choice given our fullback situation (Zinny out for a while, now Walker out; Mendy, um, not available; Aké not a comfortable choice there from an attacking standpoint)

Exactly the same situation with Rodri racking up the minutes with no viable alternative

Needs fixing next season

I agree to a point but it’s not as if Zinny has been unavailable all season is it?
We definitely need to sign another fullback and a midfielder to cover Rodri though

Cancelo's been fundamental to our play this season. No other FB in the world can contribute to the build-up play like him. Phenomenal!
But its not his build up play that is going south at the moment.
A weeks rest and he should be good to go again.

I'm commenting on his overall contribution this season, not on the last game(s). Cancelo was the only City player who started all games recently. No other City or Liverpool player has played so many minutes in April. If his critics could use their brain to put things in context, maybe, just maybe, they would be a bit more forgiving. Wouldn't hold my breath, though. Cancelo and Laporte are more criticized than the other defenders in spite of having played and contributed more than them this season.

I'm starting to think is it some bizarre seasonal effect. I think he's been brilliant over the winter period, then since the better weather he's performances have dropped. I believe it happened last season.

maybe he's the only Portuguese person who likes the Mancunian winter weather?

He looks far more comfortable at left back, despite the dominant foot.

As for the recent performances,he needs to get back to basics, concentrate on the simple stuff, and stop trying to win games on his own.The prolonged possession and over elaborate plays are going to cost us,as they very nearly did yesterday when Zinc saved his blushes.

I just think he looks akward playing wide.

Even on the left, he might be marginally better, but he is WAY better when the instruction for him is to tuck inside.

His playmaking on the wide right is pretty much just cross, while he is good at it, it limits his vision. When he basically plays as a midfielder he has alot more options and his passing ability is on full display, this new wide fullback system has hindered him.
