Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

Another big game, another we lose when we should have won.
This team is brilliant but we have a soft centre, and until we conquer that lack of Steel and lose our debilitating naivity,we will continue to be the bridesmaids.

We are our own worst enemy, the masters of self destruction. We need to address that, and maybe that starts with the boss.
He took a gamble with the subs, partifularly Rodri who didn't look tired to me. He is our steel, our most important defensive player now. Pep thought the game was won and he could afford to take him off. I can see why he did it but it backfired. With hindsight it would have been better if we hadn't scored when we did as he'd have probably left him and Mahrez on..

Should have still seen the game out can’t blame pep for that, that last few minutes was shambolic anyway it’s gone now let’s concentrate on the league didn’t want to spend a weekend with them scouse cunts in Paris anyway :)

Interesting quote from twiiter :-

City conceded six goals over two legs when Kyle Walker was not on the field. For the 72 mins he was on the field they conceded none.

What a shit point in the season to lose our best full back, best team over 2 legs by far and lost, fuck all to do with mentality in my opinion, its down to scoring all those chances, we do that and we go through, simple.

Rank complacency from Pep - he should know better, that white trash in their own back yard and a ref giving us nothing? What was he thinking? His sentimentallity as well ..Steffan in the cup..there really is no room for it at this level , ruthlessness is required. A few months back I genuinely feared us ending up with nothing and that cultist vermin winning the lot. They are slowly inching towards the unthinkable. Aided and abetted by 2 abject capitulations. Wonder what odds there are for a third? Pretty good atm I would think
Still in shock , the worst point since the takeover...Khaldoon will be livid
Still there are much worse things going on in the world right now....ask Zinch....:(

We certainly need to be more ruthless and that goes for off as well as on the pitch.
Of course we're good enough to get to these stages but it's what happens then that's a lottery as to what version of City turns up. We should have won or be winning jug ears by now, who knows if it will get easier or even harder. Newcastle may come online before we do.
A truly terrible evening and another cup for cockups - been a while, but our old friend was back in abundance last night.

Got to go and win the league. It is so important.

The players only have themselves to blame for going out. You can't miss so many chances and exlect to go through. We should have been ready for the late onslaught though. Was always coming and was always going to be through crosses. We didn't stop the ball coming in well enough and the defensive shape was poor. No one stood up and dealt with things. Someone needed to fall over and fake an injury and just wind down the clock.

We got what we deserved.

But we move on. Newcastle game is huge.

Let's hope Spurs do us a favour Saturday night and there is a bit more cheer on here!

You're upset, you're not thinking cleanly.
"Spurs do us a favour"?

Deep down we always knew our lack of a striker for two whole years was a weak point and to compensate for it we would have to produce a lot more chances than our opposition. It is amazing how well we do without one over the course of a title campaign however in the 5 biggest games this season (3 against Liverpool and 2 against Madrid) we have come unstuck. I know we played a weakened team in the fa cup but it was evident there as well.

How we crumbled when Real put us under pressure when in essence they had nothing to lose at that point was a massive concern, however we had some glorious chances just prior to that that a 2012 Aguero or Dzeko would have buried.

do we think there’s an issue with character or mentality in our squad?
More like finishing and decision making.

If Mahrez or Foden score either of those chances at 2-0 up at home last week, we’d have gone through (Mahrez should actually have passed to Foden, and Foden is poor at that shot from the left that he missed he’s got to improve)… if Grealish scores that chance where he went round the keeper (it was pretty much an open net and he mishit it at the one place where a bloke was stood facing the wrong way)… if we just played it in the corners and wasted time to end the game last night (instead of dinking crosses into Courtois to start attacks) we’d have gone through.

Over it already and it’s all about winning the league.

That said, it was a shocking collapse from the side last night and I’m the first to make excuses for them and to defend them because they have earned that but I can’t this time around I’m afraid.

The mentality for this competition has to change because right now it’s fragile and not good enough.
