Frenkie de Jong

I do have some concerns about FDJ’s defensive ability and just how well he could play that Rodri/ferna role in the PL, but I suppose versatility is the key here as that 6 role is gonna be Rodri most of the time.

Haven’t seen him play really since he joined Barca but it doesn’t seem like he’s ever dislodged busquets who he was supposedly the successor to?
 
De Jong is a regular for Barcelona but it is understood that because of their financial issues the club would be willing to sell him if they received an agreeable offer, possibly about £60 million

Swap with Raheem maybe ?

Weren’t there loads of reports of us asking for him as a part of the Ferran deal? We’ve probably been after him for a while if true

Suppose it depends upon whether one of our current midfielders is leaving (other than Fernandinho), but we should be looking to introduce more pace into the team rather than replicate what we have currently.

Losing Sane and likely Sterling would take a lot of dynamism out of the side relative to what we had at our best in 17/18.

We should plan for Gundo and KDB successors, can't rely on them for a full season

Hopefully we have not agreed to what a few Barca sources are saying, Barca want Laporte and they are going to try for Bernardo.
 
De Jongs vision and weight of pass is incredible, we sign him we basically have to KDBs. When I’ve watched him some of the passing is very similar to Kevin’s. I just don’t think Barca use him correctly. He should be their main creative player but they shove him in as a 6 which he can play because he can be a dick when he wants to he is also a very good tackler. But his main assets is passing range and vision.

Do you think he could play as a 6 in the Prem?

With Fernandinho going, we really need someone who can play that role.

Also, what do you make of people saying he's slow, is it true? Guessing he can't be as slow as Rodri, but does he have the physicality for the PL?

For us - Yes easily we press from the front.
Dropped into say the Man U midfield as a 6 with Bruno/Pogba etc as 8's, players would be flying/passing past him.
 
I think people are weirdly, significantly underrating how physical and defensive minded De Jong is.

He's a lot closer to Yaya than Gundogan. Loves a tackle, and he's categorically not slow, I have no idea where that's come from and he's strong, people bounce off him.

Now playing Yaya as a lone 6 was not for the faint hearted and he was at his best with Fern,Nige or Barry next to him, but he could do it in 95% of games. FDJ is the same.

I prefer him as an 8 because under Koeman he really started making late runs into the box and getting goals, and you don't get that when he's got more defensive responsibilities.

No he has ample pace but his skill on the ball would buy him more time anyway. very high class footballer.
 
Would be equally as important a transfer as Haaland. He's a top top player in a position that we need
 
I think FDJ is a good player but we need something different than what we have. Rodri was masterful v Real Madrid on Weds until Camavinga came on. He couldn't handle his youth, pace and athleticism. I feel it's that kind of option we need. Ideally Bellingham but if not someone with similar characteristics.

Indeed. In terms of his pace, he is not far off the level of KDB which is perfectly fine. I would think he is quicker than Rodri and Gundogan.

Watching him play, I think he is best used in the role of the 8/10 but could slip into the 6 role, if required.

Bit harsh on Rodri, camavaniga played deeper the 8's couldn't really cope with his energy more than Rodri.
