It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

If we've scouted Phillips as often as the rumours say we have and we still want him there must be something good to him. It's difficult to really judge a player's quality in this Leeds side anyway.

Obviously it's difficult to get enamoured when we've been linked with Bellingham and De Jong. Plus if we want a budget option Ward-Prowse would seem more enticing.

We'll see.

Who is talking about superstars? You can look at several leagues and come up with better options that wouldn’t downgrade us severely. You can’t sign players that you would dread seeing in big games. And Ward-Prowse would not be cheap (just like I don’t think the other two would either). It’s just an example, but you take Danilo from Palmeiras (remember this name) who would cost much less than Phillips, is much younger and much more potential, that would be the way to go. Does anyone think Phillips makes the squad in the best team in Europe? Why is Liverpool, a team that could win the quadruple, looking at Tchouameni (and they already have Fabinho) and we’re looking at Kalvin fucking Phillips?
And Liverpool’s midfield has Milner in it, as well as Henderson….

The Fabian Delph type of signing where Pep converted him to a full back when he arrived. If Phillips right footed it will save bringing in another right back

i just want someone in his price range, that's it, don't really care if it's phillips tbh. i'd like us to be smart and not overpay
you get what you pay for...pay average money you get average players.....unless there is a ridiculously low release clause

He’s too slow, we’ll be fucked with balls over the top or through the lines and there is no way he can read a game like Fern with his positioning. Didn’t he do the sitting out of the 2 DMs for England. There’s no way on earth this works for us

They said the same about Rodri.

We need to raise the bar Liverpool has Fabinho and going after Tchouameni and next year they are planning for bellingham.

Fernandinho had bags of Champions League experience and had won a couple of league titles and a youth team winners medal with Brazil
He had experience in getting beaten consistently in the champions league and won a few Ukrainian league's which is as bad a league as you will find, as for the youth cup - he was 28, get real! Phillips has PL experience and played on the biggest stage at the Euro's, a couple of penalties away from a winners medal. Please don't rewrite history to say we were buying a superstar in fernandinho, or that Phillips couldn't replicate his success based on where both are/were when/if we bought them

Still came from a better background and he had better stats (even cheekily compared himself to Yaya Toure when we were linked to him)

So I take it you didn’t watch shakhtar vs chelsea ? hes not fit to lace fern’s boot .
You're referencing a single match, which I guarantee you know about in hindsight to misconstrue what I've said in 2 ways.

1) I didn't say fernandinho was a bad player, just that he was a relative unknown at 28. He was. He'd never played in a major league and had 3 or 4 caps in friendlies.

2) that I think Phillips is as good as him.

My point is that certain posters are saying he's too old or not a big enough name. Dinho was older and less known yet he turned out to be a smasher and club legend. Some players only find their true potential when they arrive at city

having a player like phillips allows our creative players to breath up top more. instead of having our forwards play CB all game

also makes some sense if pep will be trying the 3 at back ever again.

Again, I'm not comparing the players just the fact that dinho was essentially a nobody before he came to city and flourished. No reason why that can't happen again.

Some posters are too hung up on age, profile, trophies when assessing potential signings. I'm actually using dinho as a massively positive example
