Phillips at £35m is certainly better than Rice at £135m and scratches our English itch.

I would have went hard for Aurélien Tchouaméni, but clearly the club wasn't in for him at all or we'd have heard something by now. As long as he doesn't end up with the dippers then it's fine.

I think as Jack has alluded to that Phillips is the number one target anyway mate?

Examples on better players out there and available?
I believe Tchouamenei is a better player with a much higher ceiling.

I think we should've considered looking at Ruben Neves especially with the relationship we have with Mendes.

I like the look of Merino from Sociedad.

I would even look at Tielemans on a free

I tell you who’s underrated Konrad Laimer at RB Leipzig quality player.

Saw on wiki his nickname is the Yorkshire Pirlo so atleast the alternative commentary guy will have something to work with

The price is right on philips. Tchouameni will be transfered for a lot of cash according to reports, around 70-80 million euros

I'm pretty sure that one of the reasons Pep will go for him is that he showed that he can play as an 8 (at times) for the national side during the Euros last summer as well, cos I dont personally think he will get enough games as a pure 6 for Rodri. I dont think Pep likes rotation on that one (position) too much, not as much as the rest of the team at least.

His injury issues this season is a worry though, seems like he played every game for a couple of seasons and the summer as well.. maybe it finally caught up with him and he won't have as much issues if hes handled with in the future.. Bielsa (training) is a madman as we know.

And in some ways its easier now as well.. cos there's no way hes gonna leave, for instance to Villa when Leeds is staying up, which he might have felt "forced" to do if Leeds went down with the 25m relegation clause, and would have gotten more playing time at Villa than Man City as well. That equation is kinda taken off the board now. Now its more of a clean choice with staying at Leeds or leaving to City (35m buyout clause) for a somewhat more restricted role. But I'm sure he will be betting on himself if he goes though.

Arsenal might be the biggest hurdle, the only one I can think of where he would play, and worthwhile for him to go to.

You didn’t need to add training :-))

Why would he want to leave them now they've avoided relegation and play a secondary role here. More wages for him but Leeds will up his transfer fee now.
Not excited by this interest to be honest.

Can't pretend I'm enthused about this, personally don't think he's anywhere near the requisite quality. But we'll have to trust the club's judgement.
Me neither, he did well for England, no doubt about that, but just reminds me of David Batty, with a shit hairdo, he’ll become a better player if he signs just by virtue of the fact he’d be surrounded by better quality, player and coach wise, but still, not seeing it atm, like you say, just have to trust the clubs judgement.

I mentioned Neves on the other thread.

Not a dm, more a b2b
Neves has never been a solo dm and only played in a double midfield, only in a 5-2-3. But decent
Merino as a lone dm? No. Sociedads target should be Zubimendi
Tielemans? He’s more equivalent to Gundogan and those positions.

I think people just gotta lower their expectations, trust the boards and see to what the squad is missing and it’s very logical how Phillips fits, both as player and person.

Why did Grealish leave Villa? Cheers.

Take Villas situation and subtract rich owners, pushing for European football and a pretty ok project. Add a bad coach, best player leaving, barely scraped relegation. Why would he for European football and titles? :/

I think he was available around 30-35m as long as Leeds goes down.
but they didnt, so imo this is a 60m transfer at least.

not sure about it.
