That goal of Rodri's yesterday gets more amazing with every viewing. The placement and accuracy is unbelievable, it doesn't move an inch off line, it goes perfectly straight and flies in at the same height as it left his boot. The defender was almost on him and in the circumstances of the match it would have been so easy to rush it or to batter it and hope for the best, but instead he just plants it clean and true into the very spot he is aiming for. The control is absolutely masterful.

Don’t know if real or im imagining it, but I think part of the reason the goalie had trouble is that rodri’s approach makes it look like he would naturally run right through it and hit it with left foot and drive it across the goal for power, but at the last second he plants his left foot, opens his hips, and passes it into net with his right foot instead.

Not sure if goalie being a back-up might have had a role in him leaning too far over in anticipation of a shot that wasn’t coming.

That's the next step for Rodri. To maintain and/or improve. He was at that level this year.

"Is he as good as three of the best midfielders ever?" is a very harsh measurement of whether a player is world class or not IMO.

I’m talking about world class mate nothing else that is what I’m replying to, yes Rodri is very good but he’s not WC just yet and that is what I’m disagreeing on with that poster.

Rodri is playing for one of the best teams in the world, winning trophy after trophy but you are going to compare them to 3 players which played about 20yrs ago.

Pretty much passed the ball into the net from 20 odd yards for our equaliser.

He’s been 8/10 (or better) in most of our games this season.

Rodri is playing for one of the best teams in the world, winning trophy after trophy but you are going to compare them to 3 players which played about 20yrs ago.

The point I’m making is the term ‘World Class’ gets spoken a lot these days and the poster I was replying to referred Rodri as WC, so I threw in those 3 greats as a pointer to DMs that were WC and imo Rodri isn’t there yet, but he will be in the future I’m sure of that.
