I agree . I cannot believe that we are not all over this one coming in as this guy under pep will be an absolute monster . £50-£60 million for a player who was immense for England last year when they got to the he euro final is a really good deal if we can pull it over the line but as you say because he hasn’t got the fancy name and doesn’t play for the fancy club he is not good enough for us . Very narrow minded view that is

The narrow mindedness is in thinking people don't rate him because he's not foreign.

If you want to tell yourself £60m for Kalvin Phillips is a good deal then knock yourself out but you guys don't have to make up reasons why some of us simply don't think he's a particularly good player.

I know Yoonitid aren’t in for him, that Leeds hatred for them puts a stop to that, however if he does come to City it’s an added extra for free,he is a Leeds boy and they would never forgive him if he went to the swamp.Personally, think he would be a very good buy, price is largely irrelevant,Pep will coach him to improve greatly,he has history of this.

The 'up to £60m' probably means with add ons. In which case, I hope we pay every penny of it as it'll mean he's played lots of games for us, lots of England caps, plenty of PL and CL titles and potentially a Balon d'Or nomination.

From the bits I've seen of Philips, I've been impressed. Looked good for England in the Euros and his injury was part of Leeds' struggles this season. I also trust City - how many bad buys have we made since Pep's been here and even before that but with Txiki? Add in that they'll have had the thoughts of Bielsa on what he's like and if we think he's a good fit, I'm sure they'll be correct.

I think people here are missing the point. I'm fact it is not our private money and therefore there are some and perhaps rightly claim that they do not care about the amount to be paid. But in the end it's money from our beloved football club, money that is not unlimited , no matter how rich our owner is, and it's money that can be used better than Kevin Phillips, if the amount will be close to 60 million. He comes as a backup player for Rodri who is the best DM in the world in my opinion who was also bought for 60 million. So true Phillips is a good player with experience in the Premier League but in my opinion at least there is no justification for this price, and if City are willing to pay such sums I think there are better options on the table. People here do not complain about the 60 million that the club willing to spends because city spent higher amounts on other players, it is in exchange for the price and here I must agree that it will be a bad deal for us, again I note- if and only if the 60 million rumors are correct.

Why does everyone keep saying he’s coming as back up? He’ll be signed with the intention to play a part in this team, he may end up a regular starter, no one knows.

I suspect this will be your last post in this thread then.

Its getting very boring this whole back and forth, so if you don't rate the lad stop posting in this thread and post in the others of the players you do rate.

At the end of the day, its very easy to see why Pep/City prefer Phillips over the other options being thrown out there. If you disagree, that is fine but doesn't matter how many times you post in here how X is only 20m and better, it doesnt matter.

Brace yourself mate……… ;-)

With that arrival of Haaland and expected departures would hazard a guess the team may set up differently next season and for all we know Phillips may well have all the attributes to play in that system.

Alternatively, I can just carry on posting in here the same as everyone else. If you find it boring then there are a plethora of options at your fingertips.

Ironically, you are correct, except for the exact wrong reasons -

1. the "narrative" in here is that for some reason, Kalvin phillips is a world class player who's worth 60m and anyone who says otherwise is a pathetic basement dwelling arsehole who shouldn't even hold opinions.
2. There is in fact a player named João that is AT LEAST as good as Kalvin Phillips (and the same age) - his name is João Palhinha and he's going to wolves for £20m, and people dismiss whenever you suggest him.
3. Suggesting "foreign sounding names" here will get you labelled as a "Football Manager kid".

Perhaps the reason people at City haven't gone for your suggestion of Palhinha is because he hasn't played in the PL and therefore are question marks about how he would cope ? Wolves may be more prepared to gamble on him.

You may be correct in your assessment and perhaps time will prove you correct but at present City don't appear to believe that he is the player the team needs.

Sure, and while that's a valid reasoning to not sign a player, it goes exactly against the narrative of "this sub's narrative is that only foreign players are good".

Why does every post have to be about players you rate highly? Nothing wrong with a post that isn't very flattering if that's their opinion, its no less valid than somebody that rates him highly. we're not scouse.

What about €60m

£60 mill for a half decent half clogger, no thanks. Must be better around for that kind of dosh

Kalvin Phillips is a similar signing to when we signed Fabian Delph and he did a decent job for us in that respect.
We paid £8mil for Delph. We shouldn't be spending £60mil on someone to come in and "do a job" for us, in my opinion. I'd rather see the club put the £50mil we're likely to get for Jesus towards the midfield fund and bring in a Rolls Royce player, like a De Jong or someone who will develop into one, a la Bellingham. That would be the more beneficial move long term. Phillips has too many limitations to warrant such an outlay, again that's just my opinion.
