Nathan Ake

Selling Ake for 40M£ and getting someone very good for 25M£ is maybe the right idea. But paying more for the replacement than for selling Ake is simply ridiculous.

No it wouldn’t be ridiculous because if Ake has say 3 years left on his contract and we sell him for say £30M and then replace him with a player costing £50M on a 5 year contract then the annual cost remains unchanged at £10M pa.
If it happens to be a better player than Ake then we’ll have traded up at no cost and that’s certainly not ridiculous.

PS. Not that I want him sold but our magnificent run of success means that I trust the club to get it right.

Don't see why we would entertain this, he's stated he's happy here, he's gradually getting into the team more and feels like a cog in the macginennow and not just a spare part. Pep has finally got a set of centre backs he's happy with and can trust after many years. we've got quite a bit of squad refreshing to do this summer, half our attack has gone, our captain gone, potentially others, Ake would obviously need to be replaced, adding another thing to the to do list this summer isn't advisable. His value isn't going to move much between now and next summer if one or more parties decide its time to move on then. There's no benefit to us from selling him.

He played 921 minutes in the league last season and that was with an injury crisis with our centre backs towards the end of the season. He also picked up some minutes at left back, again with our first choice being detained at her majestys pleasure

ordinarily the fourth choice centre back would hardly get a look in apart from cup games and dead rubbers

if we get our money back or more we should snap there hands off

he was bought as an insurance policy in case stones left or didn’t pick up form, that didn’t happen so we don’t need him anymore

give his minutes to Mbete or another up and coming defender

We're already strengthening a direct rival by giving them Sterling, why give them Ake as well? We would have to buy a replacement for similar money. However promising Mbete is it would be a big gamble to trust him with the playing time Ake had last season. It could make a real difference in a tight title race.

Ake looked very strong when he played last season, it just makes no sense to sell him at all. I'd be more upset about this one than Sterling going as I can understand the logic of that deal but not this one if it goes through.

It also makes no sense keeping a £40m defender on the bench just in case you need him for 5 - 10 games max per season.

Our other three centre backs are all world class

if we don’t trust the kids then bring in a veteran for a couple of seasons until they are ready , someone like Thiago Silva at Chelsea

Not sure about more upset than Raheem but I would be upset since I thought he was much improved last season. Stones is injury prone so that's already games for Ake and at the back end last season we had a CB crisis. I would certainly have kept him for another season and rested Dias, Laporte, Stones etc when needed.

I can understand fans fears that at this moment in time it looks like we'll have no players left, with all this media transfer nonsense. I might be completely wrong here but there's no way we'll sell more first team players than we'll actually bring in. So far it's two in, zero out, but that will change in the next few days.
I'm guessing five in, three out. In- Haaland, Alvarez, Phillips, Cucurella, Ortega. Out- Jesus, Sterling, Ake

Big mistake selling if we do, top class centre half, as good as our other three, and given the number of games we play and the injuries we can expect from them, will be vital again next season
He’s not really on the other 3s level for me, a great squad player but the money being banded isn’t even up for discussion, we snap their hands off and reinvest….. he isn’t going to knock the other 3 off the perch if fit, which is more the reluctance to sell truth be told, however, we have utility players to fill who aren’t a downgrade so it would be folly not to cash in!
