It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

The steffen deal has to be one of our worst ever. We paid 7 mil for him, pay him 50k a week send him on loan to a championship team to get him playing time were we will likely be paying his wages and then sign another keeper and pay the new keepers wages to keep steffen happy.

Or he does well, has a decent WC and we double our money. We’ve just got £13m for a lad that did well at Pompy..

I’d have thought it was pretty obvious it’s Haaland 9.
Screw you Rammy… Screw you! How dare you steal my limelight and legend status from my grasp! Goddam you and your ‘logic’ ffs.

clearly I know this but my point was I think that’s why Dickov is getting excited, he’ll make a joke of how Haaland has big shoes to fill etc I imagine. He’d not leak or tease a signing I’d of thought. Still screw you though ;)

I think that may be as good as we're going to get and would be a piece of great business, English International with a year left on his deal who wants the move.

It's a complete return on investment as far as the transfer fee goes, Maybe we can get them to throw in 5M in add ons.

Fair comment mate. I just think it very unlikely that we'll (possibly ever) get to see more than one or perhaps two EDS graduates every 5 years or so becoming genuine members of the first team squad.

The days of youth squads progressing through to play together at top level are long gone. Clubs will continue to pay for 'ready-made' elite talent from home and overseas. That's why it's now common for City and other top clubs to include buyback and sell-on clauses in deals.

As good as our EDS kids are, unless they display an elite level of talent and desire as the likes of Foden etc, they vast majority are destined to be sold off to fund Academy costs / meet FFP targets. And it's not just at City.

You make a really good point about desire.
Loads of kids are really good but the absolute hunger to be great makes a massive difference
That is why I have a lot of faith in James
Just as Phil hired a specialist sprint coach with his own money and on his own time to make him faster and more explosive, James similarly hired a finishing coach with his own money and on his own time to do extra sessions after training.
He ended up PL2 top scorer and player of the year as a result
That to me shows an absolutely elite mentality. Even after training he wants to put in extra work and improve
He is just physically a bit behind but by the time he is 20/21 he will be an elite player

City’s youth teams win the league and have all the best players in the country for their age groups.

Where are these “ready made” players hiding mate?

We're busy trying to sign them at the moment if you hadn't noticed....

Leeds, Brighton, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea, that we know of; not to mention the kids of all ages that we'll be tempting away from other clubs' academies.

Regardless of what they've won as teams, every team we have, at every age level, below the senior squad, will only contain one or two players who will actually make the "elite" grade.

The fact is that 90% or so, will be sold or simply drift away from the club.

Sorry I got the wrong end of the stick in your original post mate.

To be honest, I didn't think that Phil Foden would progress as quickly as he has, and fully expected him to go out on loan.

I think much the same about James, but suspect that he won't have the same opportunity as Phil to break through without going on loan.

I've been wrong before... ;-)

May of been mentioned already but if not I’m claiming it lol… My thinking is Dickov is alluding to Haaland getting the number 9 shirt, like he wore ;) I think that’s why he’s hyped to be honest. So yep, Haaland to be announced as wearing the number 9 tomorrow. Of course I could be wrong in which case I’m speculating, if I’m right though “you heard it here first” haha.
My thoughts exactly - depending on Jesus joining the Arse
