Romeo Lavia

The academy is there to generate sales for the first team , finding a gem is a bonus , why do people still not get that
...because lots of them actually believe we are going to end up with a team made of mostly homegrown talent ;)
Truth is, most are never going to play the majority of their careers in the top Leagues, some will play Championship, and majority below that.

I mean, we did appoint a manager who fielded seven academy graduates in a Champions League Final (with another four on the bench), so I don't think those hoping to see a few more of our lads make the step up were being unduly naïve

£40mil buy back according to Fab Romano

Tbf, it's a bit high but it's still fuck all if he hits his MASSIVE potential

Good luck to him

No idea.

City is a university for football talent, and just like most universities most move on to something else, only the very best stay on to become greats.

To be fair, that Barcelona side was a freak side that had some of the greatest players in it of it's era. I can't remember many other teams doing something similar, maybe United in 1999ish, but on the whole most teams don't have many youth players from their ranks playing in CL finals. Feel free to correct me though. But seriously, he didn't pick them because they were youth players, he picked them because they were insanely good. It's not been repeated since, so if it was that easy then every team in Europe would be playing with it's own youth players.

Honestly, the standard of our first XI is basically so high that you have to be phenomenal at your peak to be considered to play in it. I know Lavia is supposed to be good, but he's gone to Southampton. I think they've been superb at spotting players, but he's not gone to Real or the like has he?

We have to remember that some of these players will want to be playing and will expect to play every week. No player in our first XI is guaranteed that, but if we can let players go with a buy-back clause then we get the best of all worlds - they get first team football and if they are good, we can but them back. If Lavia is as good as some say he is, we'll get a bargain.

I trust Pep on these decisions, he's seen the odd top class player in his time!

In fairness that stat is misleading considering 5 of the 7 were long established members of the side before Pep took over.
