It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

This break the internet signing, or really big deal, or whatever anyone wants to call it….

Well, there isn’t anyone really.

All the big names in football are old, have baggage or we don’t need them.

The only new big names are Haaland and Mbappe and we just bought one of them.

Can anyone give me a name of someone that 90% of City fans would be over the moon with and that this forum would blow up?

van Dijk? Reece James?

If Ake goes for £50m then City finally have turned a corner on getting great deals on player sales. We have already done good business tith some academy players, throw in £45m for Jesus, £50m for Sterling and £50m for Ake and that is three we have made money on as well as benefitting from a successful time whilst they were with us, and looking capable of managing without them if we really have to.

People see Haaland as Aguero's replacement but we won the league and were 5 minutes away from the CL final without him in the squad last season. So if you take Haaland and Alvarez as Jesus and Sterling's replacements, we are doing okay and are looking very likely to take home the big one...the one that means more....the net spend trophy!

Hopefully a couple of new surprises still to come in. Cucurella would be a brilliant signing, and having added some more bite and energy in Philipps too we are definitelt a stronger proposition. A wildcard winger would be good fun though.

So, if we are getting this Cucurella guy, what's the plan for Zinchenko ?

I still think that there is not that much difference in terms of quality between these two..

Maybe Cucurella is better defensively, but Zinchenko possesses the ball better, knows Pep's system better, plays better offensively and is more versatile..

And also 50m is too much, FFS we sold Jesus for that money and Haaland fee was 60m, we are getting robbed here :(
Back up left back and Swiss Army Knife

We sign him and we are signing a centre back that is mistake prone, physically bullied and does not deal very well under pressure. Villarreals entire defensive system has masked his mistakes and of how average a player he is. He’s a shit version of Laporte
I can’t see him being the one we go for personally.

Zinchenko is an able deputy, not for the long haul. Don't let the villa assist cloud that.

Jesus, last year of contract. Haaland, clause. Robbed? Get real

£55m for Torres too

Cucurella is miles ahead offensively.

Can’t disagree too much here. A little harsh maybe but I certainly wouldn’t want this. If it happened I’d back Pep to get a good player out of him still.

My point is that if we don't sign a cb to replace Ake its not the end of the world that some people are predicting before the window opens again in January.

If two of Stones/Dias/Laporte picks up minor injuries during the world cup then we won't be flapping about who's playing in Central defence because City won't be playing so in a way its a relief.

I see what you are saying.

I disagree though. You

So it is a problem but at least it is not a problem for long, and could be fixed in January.

But why go into a season, this one in particular, with a self made problem and try make do, however long that is?

January is much harder and more expensive for getting signings in, never mind quickly bedding them in. I just don't see the club investing in the likes of Haaland, Phillips, Alvarez, to then go in with missing players elsewhere. In particular if it is either Pep's last season, or his first with a mini rebuild, and a chance at 3 titles in a row. Be stupid to go in making do again, however long for, given the effort gone in already. I imagine the club would rather not sell Ake at all, than do that. Hence I am confident they will sign a replacement this window, if he goes.

Agree with this. Plenty on here got carried away with Zinchenko. He is a loyal servant but had a few poor games before his epic performance against Villa.

They've also overplayed Jesus' abilities for us. He was excellent in the CL but generally pretty poor in the league. I mean we didn't have a striker and yet he was still on the bench for a lot of the season.

Sterling is a player we would miss, had we not signed Haaland.
