Most Overrated Player to Play for City

His character was just what we needed at the time but as the team progressed his limitations as a footballer became clear. He was replaced by a superior footballer in Gareth Barry who in turn was replaced by a superior footballer in Fernandinho. But for years after de Jong's departure fans still used to post on here saying "we never really replaced de Jong" , "what this team needs now is a player like de Jong". Normally from fans of a certain age who above all else want their midfielders to get "stuck in".
I think NDJ is a great shout. An absolute fan favourite, but a player not needed in a top side. He helped us get to that stage, but the fact he had to slide in so much illustrated that his positioning was poor.

Never knew what his supposed strengths were because scoring and creating chances certainly weren't among them. Similar in many ways to Nigel Fucking Clough.
He missed most chances that ever came his way with great aplomb.... (Heath). Clough wasnt great either.

He and Howard seemed to have a very cozy relationship, fucking weird he was constantly picked yet contributed jack shit.

Arry Kane, never known a player never to wear sky blue that had so much fan boy worship on here last summer, very strange.

Michael Johnson. Probably due to the fact that he was talked up so much as being the next big thing at the time. His early enforced retirement means we will never know but for me I always thought he was over rated and it was more clutching that we wanted/needed a new local youth team hero.

Don’t get me wrong he was decent but nothing I ever saw made me think he was or was going to be the superstar some talked about.

Paul Dickov
He changed the course of our history, he deserves better than that. Typical scotsman he gave 100% for the team. Besides I cant think many City fans would think he was world class but I would imagine most would think he was a decent player.

Surprised by that from you. He changed the course of our history, he deserves better than that. He gave everything for the team. Besides I cant think many City fans would think he was world class but I would imagine most would think he was a decent player and important to us.
He was with us for 8 seasons and averaged less than 5 goals a season.

He was a centre forward.

Would never fault his effort, and he scored a very important goal.

But have you ever thought that if we had a centre forward who managed more than 5 goals a season, we might not have dropped so low?

Hard graft and no talent will only get you so far in football. I said this on here at the time of the takeover and got pelters for it.

If the last 14 years has taught us anything, it's that hard work is important. But it's a minimum requirement. To be successful, you have to have talented players working hard.
