Formula 1 2022

Verstappen drove like a true Champion.
Mercedes 2 and 3. Profits from the mess at Ferrari. Russell did well to keep off Perez. The latter simply had a poor race and is nowhere near his firm a few races back.

Verstappen was helped by Leclerc's incompetence.

Verstappen and Leclerc appear to be in a different league at the moment, just Leclerc made a big mistake. Sky comms got a bit giddy as usual that Hamilton could beat Verstappen.

I think that's the first time this season that the Mercs have beaten a Red Bull on the track, without crashes/breakdowns/penalties. A sign of another step forward, but how much is due to Perez having a bad weekend (as per the comms) will need a repeat to be sure.

If Ferrari are right that Sainz was going to run out of tyres, they were damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Verstappen was in his first title fight last year, but he had an incredible track record for consistency going on for years, which ultimately trumped any inexperience he had. I think Leclerc is doing a lot better this season than he might get credit for, but his inexperience at the very top is showing every now and again without the things that helped Verstappen last season.

Mercedes could make a good push for 2nd in the WCC with the way things seem to be going. I think neither Hamilton nor Russell being in a title fight has led to some excellent cooperation between the two. It would be interesting to see if that dynamic was maintained if Mercedes could have a strong car next season.

Good to see the McLaren looking like a decent car again.

If Ferrari weren't such a Clusterfuck he might have a challenge.
I agree, Ferrari's strategy seems to have been amateur hour. Add to that the fact that Le Clerc makes critical mistakes doesn't help either.
I'm no Max fanboy but I think he will end up champion this year again and deserve it.

Last season he had so many helping hands to win that it left a sour taste.

There's no doubt he'll be champion. I was just hoping LeClerc or someone else would put him under pressure. Sadly Ferrari seem to have gone full Spursey.

Aww. One of my favourite drivers on the grid.

This is a real shame for F1, Vettel has been really good to have in the last few years raising objections to stupid things the sport is doing. He and Hamilton have been excellent "elder statesmen" being a sensible voices in the sport that Raikkonen and Alonso have never bothered to be.

Hopefully he'll stick around in comms or punditry.

New guest host of Top Gear...?

Seb is one of the best racers of F1. I also think he'll be dynamite post career.

Yeh having watched a bit of him on Question Time a few months ago where he was incredibly impressive I'm sure he can turn his hand to pretty much anything. He's hugely into his environmental issues so I wouldn't be shocked if he got involved in that to a lot more extent

That's interesting...

It’s been known for a while they were partnering but them buying half the team has only come out because of antitrust laws requiring them to declare it.

Audi are also looking at entering the sport in 2026 and Alfa look like their most likely partners.

Both have invested billions in synthetic fuels which is what F1 wants to move to.
