If grealish is like playing with an extra full back than surely that's down to grealish?

And surely you aren't gonna blame Mahrez for how grealish plays? Talk about not giving him a free pass.
It’s down to both of them but also Pep. Pep wants complete control of the game, even to the extent that he wants wingers to pass back instead of attacking full backs. I think Grealish and Mahrez are more than happy to oblige and that’s why they shouldn’t play together. It’s all too safe.

IMO Mahrez is a Pep yes man, that’s why Jesus and Sterling are elsewhere and he is the one that got the new contract. He is the only one of the three that was ok with playing 15 PL games a season. Grealish is falling into the same trap and it’s a mistake. He would be better off following the likes of Foden and producing the off-the-cuff things (even if means getting the odd telling off from the gaffer) that made us want him in the 1st place.

At the moment he is a Mahrez clone but without the goals, and that is not a £100m player.

Well cant stop them though. He isn't saying anything wrong. Grealish simply has to improve. No other excuses.

I think he will be under pressure to improve his performances and contributions this season, and there are defintely a number of posters who seem only too happy to see him fail.

Of course he has to improve, I’m confident he will, who honestly played well today btw ?

And since when did the OP say he has to improve ? He said he has to go back to villa did he not ???

Alvarez is already looking more mature than Grealish who likeable though he is must now knuckle down to produce the form of his life on the pitch not on the piss .

Foden? Alvarez? Tbf grealish has no excuses this season. When he plays as he did the entire last season you really cant blame fans for getting impatient
Ok mate if that was a good performance from them two for you then fair enough. I disagree personally. Seems like you missed the rest of my post btw

Can he use his left leg, or does he only do it to go up the stairs?
He keeps going to his right, everyone knows it. Grealish is not winger and it won't help as much as we would like to believe he is. He is a good player who should play in the center.

I see it a bit differently. Grealish is playing really mature, like the manager wants. That’s why I am not remotely surprised when Pep backs him. The thing is, we wouldn’t have signed this Grealish and definitely not for £100m.

Alvarez is playing like the Alvarez we bought. A young kid, without a care in the world just going out there an playing like he has done since he was knocking the ball around with his mates in the playground. I think we all hope he continues this way, but there is a flip side…he will lose possession, potentially a lot and it’s how Pep reacts to this.

As an example, I always felt like Pep was ok with Sterling playing off-the-cuff and losing possession when he was banging in 20 goals a season. Not so much when the goals dried up. Hopefully Alvarez delivers on G/A otherwise I think Pep will go with the safe/mature option to retain possession.

If we play someone who basically only offers retaining possession.....digging up Ray Wilkins would have been a far cheaper option ;)

Yet to see what his best attribute is. He’s got a lot to do as currently I think he just looks very average and his effort for the first goal was piss poor.
Isn't the blame on Rodri or Bernado of not rotating to the left flank when Grealish ran to support Cancelo? It is just a very normal defending scene and every team does so facing Salah. Left winger and left back vs Salah and left midfielder protects the flank.

I don’t like it but I’m not the manager. IMO the Grealish/Mahrez combo isn’t even in the same stratosphere as the Sane/Sterling combo. For me watching how toothless/pathetic Grealish and Mahrez were in the 1st half away at West Ham last season would have been the end of that partnership forever. However, Pep is a genius and he thinks differently.

He last assist to Halaand is with his left leg. He dropped to the byline once to feed Halaand but Halaand did not win against VVD.

The real problem is Mahrez who has no right foot at all. And both Mahrez and KDB did not arrive into the box as often as it need. So when Grealish looked up there was only one striker in the box against Liverpool very capable center backs. A cross would be meaningless. So he just cut inside to try to drag the space on the right to find Mahrez who parked there all the time.

When Alvarez came on we had two targets in the box thus it was much better.

Couldn't agree more.....the amount of times I see the line up and think WTF are we doing and win, or think we got it bang on and lose happens alot ;)

Really think he needs to be playing in the middle as an 8 to see the best of him. Doesn’t seem particularly well suited to the wide left role, especially when paired with another right footer in Cancelo at left-back. Makes the team seem a bit unbalanced.
The problem is that after a season with us we are benching someone better than him in any position you want to put him in. Foden is better than him wide. KDB and Bernie are better than him central. I like Grealish, I think he is a very good player and he can do a job here. However, at the moment he is a squad player and only he can change that.
