Sadly it's becoming the norm and for me it needs to stop.

Are we using Bayern tactics?

Becoming the norm? Tixiki has always done it. In the past though he would fold and pay what the asking price was on day 1, after months and months of negotiation. Like Kdb, Sterling, Walker etc etc. Now that he has Pep working wonders he has the bravado to walk away. In fairess, the last few times have worked out well. Happy to see how it plays out myself. Still think this will happen, and it will be for slightly below 50m.

We are doing nothing wrong but at the same time lowballing bids just waste time and upset the other party.
It’s fine if you’ve got plenty of genuine irons in the fire, like Chelsea had with their bid for Ake. However left backs are harder to come by and blatantly obvious he’s the only true option we have/had, so we should have been more realistic.

He will sign but we wont be getting 1p change out of 50m and I would wager Brighton will want a few adds on to go with that fee.

Maybe McAtee goes there on loan for the season?

Again 100% agree but it appears this is our no1 and ONLY target, hence the weird negotiating tactics and even letting Zinch leave before this deal was in the bag.

Yep, just get him signed ASAP. We can't go in to a new season with no recognised left back. Grimaldo from Benfica is available for a knock down fee as well, a fine second choice

Virtually every LFC attack was down our left. Opponents know our weak spot.
And just one of those weird coincidences that their best player plays on the right wing for them, if only we had a left back that's not as good as our current left back then they wouldn't have passed to Salah at all

But got found out over two legs against madrid

He didn't even play the first leg and if memory serves the goal that took us into extra time came down our left when Cancelo was playing right back.
if you think we got ‘found out’ against Real then you must have a telly in an alternate universe, @mrsprkl
We outplayed them over both legs. The entire defence, including Ed up to a point, went AWOL for about five minutes either side of the full time whistle. Nothing to do with Cancelo as such, or only in so far as he was part of a collective failure for, as I say, five minutes, eight at the outside.

Maybe we should put a bid in for that left back?View attachment 51338
But by that logic you think Ronaldo and Alexander Arnold had amazing seasons.

We need a left back. A proper orthodox left back who ideally is left footed and defends first and foremost. Hopefully he will be technically sound and be able to play in tight spaces. A bit of pace wouldn’t go a miss either.

Left back is the one position that needs sorting and we can’t afford to go into a new season with two recognised full backs both of whom are right backs.

The issue is we’ve lost all width, sold Sane and Sterling. So we have Grealish, Mahrez and Foden who all cut in or drift centrally. Cancelo usually cuts in, and Walker doesn’t offer much in attack.

A natural LB, Cucurella or otherwise, allows Cancelo to go RB and gives us the option of width again.
