Gas & Electricity

It will have been paid into your bank account if you pay council tax by direct debit and your property is band A to D only.
My mum doesn't pay by DD with CWAC she had to claim it and prove the account the were paying into was that of the bill payer was a pain tbh.

Turns out the £400 will be paid in 6 monthly instalments of £66/67 to your energy providers.

Actually Octopus’ bud makes good sense.
Running Bulb will cost the govt £2 billion in the next year.
Octopus want to take it over with a £1 billion support package to be paid back over time.

Goody for you.
You made an error though.
It has not been decided yet whether the money is going to be taken off bills or paid into bank accounts.

If you pay by DD or have a smart pre payment meter it will be a credit on your bill or meter.

You will not see this money.

I don’t think I did. There was a report on the BBC that clearly said if you pay by DD, then it would be knocked off your bill. It was on Friday morning actually (so I did make an error saying it was yesterday :) )

If we all refuse to pay these high prices enmass. They can’t send bailiffs to every household in the country. It’s becoming an untenable situation and the tories couldn’t give a toss about it
The worst hit will have to decide if they eat or stay warm which is horrific.

The government are short sighted with the whole thing. Even those who are better off will be making sacrifices. I wonder if people start to eat and drink at home to off set costs which will impact the leisure industry. That said, enjoying drinks in a warm pub might be cheaper than staying at home with the heating on. I imagine holidays might be sacrificed as well.

The World Cup might be the lifesaver for some pubs this winter

We’re already seeing it.

I work in the events industry and ticket sales for gigs etc are at rock bottom across the board.

Summer is always low but some of the sales figures, right from tiny gig venues through to big arena shows are frightening.

The retail and leisure sector will take one hell of a beating..how long will this recession last, Its going ( is )to get real messy out there. I certainly won't get to many games if any..

The above posts highlight the knock-on effects to other sectors where people spend their money. If disposable income is reduced because of the cost of energy bills (and other inflationary costs), then people won’t be spending money in shops or on leisure activities and this will affect everybody.
