I was positive yesterday, but something’s happened overnight and I’m negative now.

10 days of Covid was enough.

We’ll still win the league, in all probability.

City are always good even when we are poor. By that I mean we consistently create the better chances and that categorically happened yesterday - 5 big chances against Liverpool is unprecedented.

Sure, they exposed us but fuck me "the best back 4 in the world", er, wasn't.

You always back your points with facts mate. Keep up the good work.

Let me add that Liverpool's first 2 goals were a bit lucky: unfortunate deflection by Ake and unfortunate handball by Dias. Such things happen, next time hopefully in our favour.

Guess it's the latter.

Also, given that we need Cancelo in atrack as well, Ake's experience at LB was needed because of Salah. Dias would struggle vs Salah more than Ake.
Didn't work though did it ?
When dias 1st came to city & was partnered with stones you could see that they enjoyed playing together & had a very good understanding .
Then Laporte was put back in the team because of his sulking the following season .
I would of started with stones yesterday & the defence would of been a lot better.
On Cancelo he's good going forward with the ball ,but his defending is questionable, the space he gave salah at times was poor .
We need to bring in a proper leftback that can complement what walker does for the team on the rightside, then the defence will be balanced or their will be a few away games where it could go pearshaped.

might take another month of games for the players to get up to speed and implement any new progressions in play but no doubt whatsoever we'll be tearing it up soon. Alvarez is already a fan favourite, cant wait to see him play in the flesh.
The question is can we afford a month of getting up to speed , City and Liverpool have created a league where the margin for error is minuscule.

I will probably get some grief for saying this.
I cant get excited about the charity shield. It's a game played when most of the players arent fit. I sat at home on my sofa not bothered about it, didnt make a noise when we scored.

Plus I would never spend my hard earn cash on attending the charity shield, fair play to the blues that do, but its not for me.

I prefer to spend my cash during the season so looking forward to the 27th when we attend our first of the season.

This isnt sour grapes I just dont class the charity shield as a major final. Well it's not a final really lol. As only two teams enter it !

On a serious note what are your thoughts on yesterdays match and the coming season? Nothing can be gained from that gane yesterday as city start slow in most seasons and don’t really perform in friendly matches. It would have been nice to have won the game but it’s not to be and we will have gained an insight into we’re we need to be . As for haaland he will take time to adjust to our play as will our players who will need to play ti his strengths and that miss wasn’t great but he also had one chalked off aswell . Once again both teans will go toe to toe again .
I’m dying to know who his deleted post was aimed at. I really wish it was me.

Time will tell. But can you keep pushing the players 100% ?

They had two seasons back to back ( two week gap ? ). This season starts early because of the stupid world cup. Last season was the National league thingy. Most think it's odd how the dippers keep playing 100% mph day in day.
Pep feels our players cant do that so he trys to give them a decent break.

Remember last year the dippers pretend to have an out break of covid19 to give his players a break. In that time City pulled clear. Once the dippers out break was found to be down to a faulty batch ( bollocks ), they went back to 100mph hoofball.

Press/media say nothing about the dippers covid19 outbreak or their mid season break

OK people, let's get back to earth after the summer of excitement with new signings and Haaland

nobody is ever going to give Manchester city anything even credit when we are unstoppable, we need to be 100% match ready, pre-season is meaningless for results and go and look at arsenal and united both think they are going to be champions again and flying, well let's see when the games have something on them like 3 points,

everybody knows pep and city's plans in pre-season, he does not burn players out before a very long season,
YES we needed another week or so, YES players will need time to bed in, YES Haaland is going to miss chances

also, IF Liverpool think they have the upper hand already then fine, it's their way of thinking and also media lead
BUT you can look at it the other way, a very much undercut Manchester city was in the game for 80 minutes before the dodgy Liverpool pen,

Pep wouldn't be Pep if he were influenced like that. Some fans go with shit conspiracy theories instead of seeing the facts. Last season Laporte was our most available and reliable defender. He risked his health and played injured in the last games to help us win the title.

If Stones wants to be our main CB he should stay fit for longer than 2-3 months. When Laporte got that bad injury, Stones was so shit that Pep had to play Ferna at CB. I get the bias with Stones. It's natural, he's English, looks like a great lad, and so on. Nobody is guilty that he is injury prone though, or that he listens to his anti-vax GF.

If anybody thought we were going to be up to speed after playing two friendlies with some key players not even there, then more fool you.
I viewed the match as a "chance" to win, but be realistic if we didn't.
The truth is we were awful. I struggled to rate even one of our players.

The rags and dippers always tend to have a better pre season than us. But as ever, a good pre season doesn't mean anything.
The dippers annoy me even winning the toss. But it is the press reactions that annoy me more.

I'm just glad football is back. The real fight starts next week...

The 'On Target' stats: Dippers 4 on and three goals; City 8 on and one goal. Seems we are starting this season where we left off last season. Don't know how much of a save the goalie had to make on the seven that didn't go in, but I worry that, even with Haarland, Grealish, Foden, Alvarez and Kev firing on all cylinders we will continue to rack up the 'on target' shots but not convert them into goals, and at the back we seem worryingly vulnerable. Last season we let in some goals but always seemed to outscore our defensive lapses. Hope that continues!

Difference yesterday was that Liverpool’s full backs created balance in attack, whereas ours created confusion in attack and Cancelo wasn’t great in defence. Coupled with Rodri being off the pace, Dias looks a good few weeks behind being match ready and Ake being a bit short and unconvincing we did well to compete for the middle 70 minutes.

Those scouse full backs really do make their team

I see ake who was no worse than dias, and cancello who he had to suppprt when defending left back is gonna replace sterling as the go to moan for some.

The whole defence was poor yesterday.

As for Haaland, he is a striker in the traditional mold, if he doesn't get the ball to his feet he will be inefective, much like Nunez will be, thing is with yesterday the few times their fella was or looked effective their fullbacks got the ball just past the halfway line and then dinked it over the top for him to run on or when wide the ball was floated in, a few times ours with walker in particular in the same position will stop the ball and look for a short pass into the middlefiled, which is our style and has been effective and we shouldn't change it , but how many seasons has their been a moan we sometimes take one pass too many, Haaland is the player that one extra pass doesn't need.

Same with grealish and mahrez when the ball was wide one would look to turn and pass it on to the centre just outside the18 yard box the other try to cut inside and shoot, we have a striker now to aim quick balls into him.

But we shouldn't change our style to suit one player but we need to adapt it a little, and Haaland in my opinon will still bag a load of goals

Look at a similar striker Lewandowski his first at Bayern, with Pep he moved him out wide or in a more withdrawn position, with Robben, Muller or Gotze playing as a false nine. in the end-of-season goals tallies: Lewandowski 17, Robben 17, Muller 13, Gotze 9. The goals were shared around
The next season Guardiola went more direct: Costa and Coman on the flanks creating chances from out wide ended with Lewandowski upfront he bagged 30 goals in rhe league 42 overall.

So Pep knows how to tweak the forward system to suit both our new strikers, but if the wide players of overlapping fullbacks get in crossing position they really need to put the ball in the box this year not turn around and always look for kev on the 20 yard area.

This is not a criticism as overall I think we were rusty more than bad yesterday.

Finally they got a penalty when the game was even, after that we seemed lethargic 3-1 and the press reports are vastly over rating how good they were, which wasn't much better than us.

If we had paid any attention to the RDAHMeedya last season then both outperformed us, and had a much better season than us!

Maybe this result will actually benefit us , the Dippers will now go into the season thinking the title is in the bag and have proven a point and Pep will always have a reference to put even more determination into our players to grind these socuse bastards into the dirt.
Save all the headlines from the next few days , especially the Haaland bullshit in the papers etc to remind our players what the media are all about in this country , its a Dipper/Rag closed shop simply because of the amount of fans they have and the clicks/advertising it generates
One headline stated Liverpool give City a bloody nose , which is fine, most fights you would end up with a bloody nose , but lets see who is standing in May.
