It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

You can't shake off the feeling you know the future mate :)

Nobody knows the future, so let's see what happens. I'm optimistic. Think we'll sign a new FB, but even if we don't, we'll be fine and in January we'll find the FB we really need.

What were people saying after we failed to sign a striker last summer? And what did happen actually? We scored 150 fucking goals, that's what happened. IIRC, 150 goals is the 3rd best goal tally in the entire history of English football, the top 2 are under Pep as well.

Last season, we had the best defence in Europe. People find all kinds of problems with our defenders, yet we conceded fewer chances than Liverpool, who didn't have an injury crisis at that.

Trust in the club. Far more likely than not, we know what we are doing.

hope so mate!

Better than getting in somebody who isn't up to it that we don't really want. Maybe we'll either have to cough up the money for Cucurella or wait for a decent alternative to become available.

Do you think there are no decent alternatives out there?

Raum went to Leipzig for £25 million. Wow. German International.

I think his contract was running out at Hoffenheim but still….I wish we had got him either as a first choice or a back up at that price. We mustn’t have fancied him in our system.

City normally have instant alternatives to ensure we don‘t get ripped off. I think we may have stuck with this Brighton deal too long. We are about to find out…I can’t believe we will be starting afresh so we should start to hear rumours soon.

A player has to be of a certain standard to play for us and I can't think of any that tick all of the boxes. Having said that, I don't watch much football other than City these days.

Ultimately it will depend on if our transfer team have any alternatives that they deem as suitable.

Sosa and Nouri from my untrained eye. They really really fancied Cucurella though perhaps because of his Barca origins.

can`t shake the feeling the club are going to make the horrific decision to go with that we have got.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Whenever us fans are concerned that we're short in a certain position the board don't always share those views. We went one season without a striker in the squad, so having no left back won't bother them one bit

Haven't seen enough of them to comment really. I suspect we'll stick with Cucurella and try and get the deal done though.
I think it’s completely dead but it’s been a weird one so who knows?

If he comes now I won’t understand how it’s happened. The two sides have reached their limit and the gap is huge.

Yeah of course, all goes without saying.

I don't really know enough about Cucurella myself to say he is or isn't that standard, the club are after him that's enough for me. The same goes for some 200 LBs across the top leagues in Europe alone, so I'd assume there are alternatives out there, and the club would know which ones to go after.

It may well be that they are holding off for now because of the willingness Cucurella has shown to come, including a transfer request, and are giving him similar patience and effort in return before moving on.

I would have said this when we still had Zinchenko but we've currently got two senior full backs and one of them is 32 and has been having increasing fitness issues over the last three seasons.

Not signing a left back now would be incredibly stupid.

I have to admit it seems like we are one injury short of a major problem. I don’t get waiting till the end of the window let alone January (when clubs really don’t want to sell usually) With the points ceiling so high a poor start could see the gap bigger than we would like.

Its a gamble.

Not sure anyone is flapping, just an honest realization that we urgently need a LB.
Yeah of course we do and the club will know that too...

I guess I must just be the most chilled out City fan this morning?

We have no actual idea where the Cucurella bid is at (apart from Twitter rumours as far as I know which are as reliable as Jimmy Carr's tax return) so the deal may not be "dead" as some are saying.
If we don't have a Plan B then that says that we are confident of Plan A or there is nobody else that ticks all the boxes at the right price...?

The price thing is quite interesting really because we know we have made well over £200m in sales so if we are being "prudent" with our cash that says to me that we are looking further forward than this window... Bellingham next year maybe or someone else

There seems to be a huge amount of flapping going on this morning - did we lose a friendly or something?
Yes, that must be it. If we had just won against Liverpool everyone would think that starting the season with 5 fit senior defenders competing for 4 places is more than enough and no reason to worry.
