Big big mistake not getting a left and knowing our luck we will be fucked by mid September . £25 million for Sosa just buy him.

Our recruitment isn't just seeing a player and getting him, Pep want's to know their temperament and how they'll fit in with the squad. That can take time.

I still think we'll go with what we've got for the season.

Spot on. Pep has said himself that he wants “good people” and he looks for those qualities before the football side of things. The club knows we need a full back and many of the names above have probably been mentioned but the main reason we might not have moved yet is due to the player not being the right fit for our dressing room.

We will get a good guy when he becomes available otherwise we wait. The dressing room dynamics is more important. This approach is why we don’t see many players kicking up a fuss over game time. No bad eggs needs apply.

Pep would play Haaland at LB ahead of some random player that Txiki has pulled out of the scouting system if it came to it.

I just find it fucking mindboggling that we have a worldwide network of clubs, therefore the biggest scouting network in the world, transfer execs pulling 100’s of thousands in wages a year and the only fullback we can find to do a job for the season is a fucking mop head from Brighton who they wouldn’t sell in our budget.

6 defenders going into a season, 1 of them coming back from Knee injury.

Criminal

If we do then let’s hope we have a season like never before and avoid injuries because if we get injuries at the back we are fucked . People seem to forget that we were very lucky in the end to win the title last season and injuries at the back caused it and we have now actually gone out and weakened an already weak full back position by getting rid of one of our most reliable players .

We started scouting him in March

Signing a left back is the ideal but if there isn't one available who is good enough, a right back needs to be signed.
At least then Cancelo wouldn't have to cover for walker.

I think of the players already at the club the one most suited to trying as an inverted left back would be Kevin Ake. Phillips maybe on the right side if Walker and Cancelo were unavailable.
Ake cant play inverted because its a whole new differenr style playing in midfield.

He can play leftback defensively if it tilts to a back 3 with him on tbe left, but he isnt good enough on the ball to played inverted, the onlt CB who might be able to do it is Stones.

Fair enough but we have Walker and Cancelo that can do it on the right , but only Cancelo on the left so if we are still buying a left back it isn’t as simple as any old left footed left back will do so if we can’t find one Ake is about the best we have in the current squad that could fill in. That said I still think we’ll turn a new one up.

HOPE is NOT a word for professional football and it's a word people at top level of pro football should hate!
You make your own "luck". Just buy some good defenders, a LB for sure, and the fear of injuries and the CERTAINTY of fatigue over season, will be reduced or eliminated.

Exactly!!

having 2 first team full backs is not advisable. surely we go big for a top prospect, and the budget is £50m.

there must be some 23yo in spain/portugal i’ve barely heard of who comes to city and becomes one of the best in the league. its happened loads of times already with Diaz, Bernie, Cancelo, Laporte, Rodders. just do it again city

I mentioned it when you first replied, that Phillips would be used as an inverted fullback.

I also think Pep will use JWE and Rico Lewis. People here may not like using academy as depth, but it seems to be going that way.

We needed another fullback BEFORE Zinchenko left. We need at least one more before the deadline although I don’t expect more than one. There’s no way our back up fullback options should be Stones and Ake - the two kids, as promising as they are, are nowhere near ready to compete at the level we need them to just yet.
