It’s finally online-the Peter Swales video we’ve been waiting for P31

Didn't John Bond say he nearly walked out at city after the 81 FA Cup semi final because Swales showed zero emotion at the game and afterwards, any true fan would have been ecstatic?.
Philiph20.
Yes true. I knew John Benson well and he hated Swales. He told me that as well as the semi experience, after the cup defeat to Spuds Swales said some really shitty things to Bond and Benson. JB said he had to restrain Bond who was ready to smack the comb over.
Mind you it would have been an interesting grapple. Two ridiculous haircuts scrapping it out.
He also told me a belter about the Francis signing which I might share one day.

Scary question: If Swales was still the chairman today where would we be in the football pyramid?

Classic freemasonry
Could explain a lot. Not least how whenever Swales failings are exposed on sites like this there are apologists and acolytes who deny them saying he loved City and did good deeds - if not for widows and orphans, definitely for his cronies.

I think I recall in the the infamous fly on the wall documentary how one director when asked his opinion replied "I/we support you Mr Chairman" and could have added a nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I never saw any evidence of Swales love of City but plenty of how the Club was run into the ground and supporters taken for mugs. The truth will never come out but plenty of posts here show the measure of the man .... and rag fans think the Glazers are bad !!!

Fair enough. I think Cummins just suggested that the photoshoot wouldn't have happened had the match taken place. Perhaps he meant they wouldn't have had a photographer because he'd have been at Maine Road!

I just love the idea that the fate of such an iconic set of images depended on whether a City v Rotherham cup match could go ahead.

I remember that when Bond eventually did resign, some allegations about him having an affair made their way into the tabloids. There was also comment at the time that people inside the club were trying to undermine him.

I listened to your interview with him on your site when he spoke about a lack of warmth within the club compared with Norwich. I thought it very sad he felt that, as the 1980/81 season was such a thrilling time to be a City fan and obviously he inspired that revival.
Yes.The 1980/81 season was, as you say,a thrilling time to be a City fan.
Me as an out of town kid was buzzing for City 24/7.I loved the club.
And it still hurts to this day, that the Granada production of' City '
Was allowed to project such a depressing atmosphere around the club
Peter Swales should,as chairman of our magnificent club have had more say in the editing of the filming around City....the filming stopped when John Bond took over mid season..

Bond of course led us to the semi final of the league cup and the two games against spurs at Wembley in the FA Cup ,at a time when both those trophies meant an awful lot to every football fan and player in the country.
That video 'City' should have been about the whole season, which turned out to be,imo( as a teenager at the time ) absolutely brilliant.but Granada brutally chopped and edited to focus on Big Mal v John Bond and the West Ham Utd background of the two managers...Somebody at the club should have had an inkling as to how Granada were to publicise the footage. That man surely should have been Swales. If he had really cared about Manchester City surely he wouldn't have let such a Depressing negative hour of footage be released....when,in fact.in that season,Manchester City had smashed 6 goals in one match against Norwich....how many other teams scored 6 that season,
We went to Everton in that pulsating fa cup quarter final ,City fans had to fight all day long before during and attach the game a brilliant 2-2 draw in front of a hostile crowd, dragged the toffeemen back to Maine road in front of 52k fans and Buried them 3-1 in the replay..
The legendary semi final against Ipswich at Villa Park where City beat one of the top teams in in the land to get to Wembley..not to mention being cruelly cheated out of the 'semi finals of the league cup same year against Liverpool when the ref disallowed Kevin Reeves header for no reason at all...........The " City" Video mentions in its closing scenes that John Bond went on to take City on two good cup runs..Isn't that the sort of detail that a video entitled 'City' should be covering...or did it not fit the agenda? One that no one at the club had backbone or interest to query
Yes I'm still angry about that!!!...after all these years ...who let Granada do such a Hachet job on us?
Peter Swales. Mr Tv man himself.

That was a brilliant season, with Tommy hutch,Gerry Gow( better than Robson!) And Bobby Mac,The young Tommy Caton,England international Joe Corrigan....and all we got was a load of negative diatribe wrapped up in melodramatic depressing music

Someone needs to do a " remix" of the 1980s " City " video, telling it like it really was for our club and fans. Makes my blood boil when folk take the piss out of City....did I mention Steve Mckenzies brilliant vollied goal from 25 yards at Wembley? Paul Powers last min lob at Goodison in the semi final ..to send City fans into delirium .Granada could only manage 2 min highlights of the replay..I'd love to see the whole match...is that possible ?

It was a cracking season.full of attacking football after Bond took over
It's only now I can understand what Bond had to put up with, working with Swales, judging by comments from other posters....
