So all leisure activities are being cancelled to “mourn”, including sport, hitting any business or individual that makes their money from football matches, but all non-sport work activities are still on (everyone outside of sport is still expected at work).

Make it make sense.
What is happening to theatres and cinemas? What about restaurants? Are the trains and buses going go be running?

It kind of reminds me of the old USSR when a leader such as Stalin or Brezhnev died, they would cancel all TV and Radio programmes and play ‘sombre music’ around the clock.

This was lampooned by Spitting Image with their record (produced by KGB Tel) giving all the old favourites such as ‘Brezhnev is a Stiffy’.

Whether its this weekend or postponed to a later date, the game will still take place.
But there is no legitimate reason for postponing the matches and still requiring non-sport work activities to continue, at least outside of London (as the only legitimate reasoning for postponement is lack of availability of adequate support staff due to concurrent mourning events). It’s is arbitrary, by any measure.

And deferred revenue/wages, especially in the current economic climate (with the World Cup break on the horizon) is not going to do any football-related business or worker any good (that is if every entity even receives the same revenues and wages later; scheduling actually makes that unlikely).

It is nonsense.

As someone else said, switch out “Her Majesty” with “Our Beloved Leader” and you’ve got North Korea’s response to Kim Jong-il passing.

(And before anyone tries to bollock me for comparing Queen Elizabeth to Kim Jong-il, I am not comparing them as people or leaders, I am comparing the nations’ responses to their passing, forcing everyone to “mourn” in the exact same way, practical consequences be damned, whether they want to or not.)

Imagine all the people who had tickets, flights and hotels booked. Would probably be the last time they'd do that again.

I am all for people showing respect and understand that there is a cultural element to the royal family in the UK, but I don't see how forcing some prolonged shutdown on people and industries translates into any great gesture of respect. It comes across more as forced and some type of grandiose overkill. Respect can be shown in many ways, perhaps a national day of mourning and of course the funeral itself will attract the attention of many people both in and outside of the UK. 10 or 12 days of forced "mourning" to someone outside the UK like myself seems farcical. I apologize if I've offended anyone, but with all the stuff people are dealing with these days why add any unnecessary misery to their lives. After all the shutdowns everyone has endured over the past 2 and one half years the last thing everyday people want is another meaningless, forced shutdown, even its only 12 days.

Its fucking absurd if one really thinks about it. Cancelling the games and other such stuff does nothing in terms of showing respect. Its just one more power play orchestrated by the jerk offs in power.

Let’s keep the sporting events on and cancel hs2 instead. She has done some good stuff as a figurehead for country and this would add to her legacy .

Games are off this weekend.
So is my tv. Respects to her majesty and family but il be blowed if I’m watching programme after programme of all the hangers on and arse lickers coming out of the woodwork. News programmes yes but they even were prattling on about her on talk sport when they no nowt about her and had loads of sporting stuff sidelined to talk utter crap

Even though City have given me far more joy than any of the royal family, even though they've mattered to me for as long as the Queen reigned, I believe it's the right thing to do, having no sport for a few days. It's a time for mourning not only the Queen but also the end of an era, albeit an era that had been coming to a close for some time. And for affectionately remembering a time and an England that I grew up in. We'll move on, me and family and City, because you try to live life in the present & future, but in many ways I will always enjoy the memory of a young Elizabeth II handing Bert Trautmann his Cup winner's medal more than the anticipation of City v Spurs on Saturday or whenever that happens.
R.I.P., Lizzie, and say hi to Bert again.

It won’t go ahead … the England captain plays for Spurs and too many English players in contention to play. Also my sold season card tickets for the game has just been reinstated. Game is off. Queen Elizabeth the Great. RIP x
Spurs being a 'big' club means City will pay you out when you list it, sale or no sale.

You'll not get the money for 45 days after the match mind you.

I thought someone in the pub was winding me up before saying all sporting events were going to be cancelled this weekend!.... Only mourning I'll be doing is no football this weekend! Absolutely fucking ridiculous... Pretty sure I'll have to be in work on Monday though!

I don't like it either but the simple fact is her life was more important than others.
Not more important to me than my mam.
