I think there's a bit of projection going on in that last part. If I find myself at a church funeral and the hymns break out, the reason I don't join in isn't because I'm being an edgy ****, it's because I don't believe in the gesture and I feel like joining in would be disingenuous and, in turn, disrespectful. They're not my customs and they're not my beliefs.

You shouldn't feel the need for everyone else around you to follow suit in order to be content with the gesture of respect you've chosen to show.
Indeed. So just stay on the concourse, or don’t purposely draw attention to yourself not observing it in your seat. We managed it at Old Trafford in 2008.

I’m the least religious person you’ll ever meet, and I too don’t join in with hymns at church christenings, weddings and funerals. But I also don’t stay sat down, turn my back, get my phone out, stick two fingers up in the air or start booing during them neither.

Does he mean individual clubs? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me (e.g. "your club disrespected the Queen whilst ours did the right thing"). Should be either all on or all off. Make a collective decision and stick to it.
So take it that Liverpool will be playing

Are there any Bluemoon posters alive when King George died in 1952?

Hope the games go ahead with minutes silence etc, but fair enough and hardly the end of the world if they don't.

I would say though that I don't really get why not playing is a mark of respect. Everyone else is still at work today (or most of us anyway), not sure why sportspeople should be any different. Surely we can be respectful whilst (keeping calm and) carrying on?

Thing is, you've always got the architecture to look at in a church. Not sure the Etihad is up to scratch.

My son is press officer at an EFL club. It’s 50/50 but there is a will in the PL to play. Cricket and golf may resume tomorrow. Not much help but there’s a fair chance we crack on
I hope so.

The wildlife is good. You used to see a Peregrine Falcon around the tops of the roof, though I've not spotted it for a while. And once I recall stewards chasing a squirrel. Or was that a dream?
