Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

Once again the FA and Premier League are shown to be the inept cunts they are.
A very poor judgement call which, so far, seems out of step with public opinion. It is not just PL games. Cancelling children's football events is absurd. This did not happen in 1952 when King George died. It really feels to me like this country has gone backwards. I am all for showing respect for the Queen, a global icon for Britain. It would have been fine for everything to stop for the state funeral.

Everything will be off, save for the Great North Run, which is ostensibly a charity event anyway. The respective sporting authorities have all postponed events and will postpone events next weekend, too. Nobody can demur. This is simply what it is like living under this particular constitutional monarchy and people just need to accept/appreciate it depending on their bent.

Going to be interesting to see where these games can be fitted in to the calendar.
Loads of sporting events are carrying on so this isn't just the way it is.

Sort of a microcosm of where we are really. We'll let ordinary people suffer economic harm as a result of decisions made by people who don't consult us in any meaningful way and treat us with contempt. The decisions themselves are irrational and mired in some sort of faux reverence for a bygone era and a way of life that much of the rest of the world has moved one from when we seem incapable of doing so.
You have hit the nail on the head here. I am not anti-Royal and essentially think the Queen has been a force for good in the world (not everyone agrees). But there is nothing more nauseating than the British establishment (including the sycophants at the FA and the PL) closing ranks and trying to make decisions on behalf of other people. It really does hark back to the past when we were all supposed to know our place in society.

100% this. Are you alright with me getting up a petition for you to replace the dolts currently charge of football ?

On this occasion football should have waited, waited to see the other sports confirm they're going ahead and then follow suit. It would have avoided criticism from the 'right wing papers' that way.

Woah, this isn't Tinder, nor Grindr! Kidding, Manchester is okay, plus the weather is currently very sunny, perhaps a little damp though. :P
do you (or anyone) know if the tours are still going ahead? might grab me one of those in that case also is the platinum whatever tour worth the extra $?

I’m a theatre actor and our shows and indeed those of most theatres are going ahead, with a minute’s silence before the show. I‘m not sure why sporting events cannot do the same. I say this as a patriotic admirer of the Queen, and very keen to pay my respects, I just don’t see how postponing sports matches achieves that.

we really need to start using the word 'football' instead of 'sport' now (although cycling folded early as well).

i hope your show goes well, what is it?

IMO this is an exercise to force the common people to kowtow to the whims of those who control our sports and who do this to us because they wish to get knighthoods in due course.
I note that the posh kids sports (cricket and rugby) are not postponed other than on the day of the funeral.

But neither is the most working class sport in the country - rugby league.
