Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

I really don't want someone in Central English Government to tell me that I am " mourning ". If I want to, I will. If not, I won't.
Terrible decision IMHO to postpone footy this weekend.
I’m neither religious nor a Royalist, not been in a church out of choice for as long as I can remember, but today I voluntarily attended my local church out of respect to write in the book of condolence, I was more than happy to do that and then move on, as far as I’m concerned that should be it, so like you, it feels like I’m now being dictated to as to how I should act and how long I should be in mourning, not best pleased with this decision at all.

A fucked clock is right twice a day - the hardening Tory stance on non-interference has actually worked in their favour this time; they left this sort of stuff up to governing bodies and the FA have called it badly wrong. In this case, i think the gov might be ok? as in, by turning a blind eye and washing their hands of responsibility (yet again), they may have got away with one.

No one will be arsed about these games in a few weeks, but the history books will note that the national sport paid its respects to Her Majesty.

Imagine the history books had displays of thousands of people signing the national anthem or superstar footballers stood with their heads bowed in respect, military bands marching across pitches and fans each holding up a separate image of the Queen
To be able to look back in 100 years at how the biggest sport in the world came together to show its respect

What does it show to future generations to say “ well most people were pissed off as they cancelled football and most people just stayed at home playing words with friends or scrolled through TikTok “

When the Queens Dad died they didn’t cancel the football.

Clubs could all just cancel the February break and rescehdule these games for then.

We went 132 years without having a Winter break so I’m sure we can just postpone this season’s.

Agreed. Most of the players will play 3 or 4 games at the WC and be back again anyway. It will only inconvenience a few clubs and a few players. The English contingent will be out of the tournament and home again within a couple of weeks and long before we play Leeds on Boxing day. Nice bit of winter sun then crack on lads. Earn your 300k a week.

Blame the Football Authorities, the prospect of the scousers using the minutes silence to boo the National Anthem could not have been lost on them. Those images would have gone global and been very damaging to the EPL.
Once again Scousers spoiling football for the grown ups.

I know and I’ve seen on Twitter the crowds at games, apparently abide with me was sung as well as the national anthem,
These images could now be seen forever if we did the same, it’s still respectful and so much the better option that only the fuckwits at the FA could decide to do nothing

The history books noted that football wasn’t stopped for King George VI or V, or Queen Victoria. Edward VII died after the season finished.

The precedent was set then. This is nonsense.
