Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

The FA/PL made a hasty decision and I think it has backfired the best way for football to show respect was like West Ham and Utd did last night. Many sports around the world have held a minutes silence and I found them touching. I am a monarchist and the way the West Ham fans sang the anthem because they wanted to is a genuine show of respect not cancelling games at the last minute and I really can't see the logic behind this its not as if they had to follow a protocol.
I think they took the decision as out of all the sports going on around the country football is the one where there is the highest chance of fans who are either ambivalent or antagonistic to the idea of a hereditary monarchy to make that known vocally or with banners.
The PL brand doesn't want the optics of working class people not properly kowtowing and tugging their forelocks to their betters in the correctly prescribed way being linked to their product. It's basically the safest option for them.

Vague nonsense about respect?

One day you (or anyone) will want respect for your personal loss or grief, even from the people you don't like, we would all expect that.

I just think you can't expect respect if you can't give it.

A lot of people are actually mourning the loss, a day of no football doesn't cost anything but it does respect the occasion. As boring as it is .
Can people stop this respect bullshit?

Everybody goes through personal losses and grief, yet football still goes on.

It is possible to mourn a person and watch a game of football. It might even give that person a temporary relief from the grief they are feeling.

What occasion is not being respected tomorrow by cricket and all other sports being played?

Its nothing to do with respect, it down to an inept PL committee making a shite decision.

I'm going to make this my last post on the topic because I'm becoming too impassioned, but what's fucking me off more than anything is every media outlet, braindead celebrity, figure of authority, every disingenuous politician, telling us that the whole nation is bereaved. That the whole nation is mournfully reflecting. No, they don't get to speak for everyone, and they certainly don't get to speak for me. I'm not affected in anyway.

The Queen was a one off; the rest of that family are repugnant, and it's high time this anachronistic charade was abolished.
Prince Andrew was very pleasant when he visited our school
