Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

I understand that some people don't like the royals and us being a monachist state, however this is what our country is and so the people have to accept this decision.

We are not just talking about a 96 year woman, we are talking about The Queen!
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest living British monarch!

This is major news, front page news, not just here but in every country around the World! Flags are half mast in the USA for example and they even had a minute silence in last night's NFL game and the US Open.

All you have to do is look at the huge crowds who are out in London, Windsor and Balmoral. The people who have sent their condolences, world leaders, people who are well known and who are and have been top of their profession.
No other person in the world would have received that level of response from people, no one! and just wait until it's her funeral.

I know we all love watching City and football, and this is an inconvenience for some, but an event like the Queen dying is unprecedented and will take preference in this country, and rightly so, and like it or not, everyone has to live with it.
Why does the football fan, spectator or young kid playing, have to be inconvenienced and not other sport participants, are the theatres or cinemas or other activities inconvenienced?
The football authorities were happy to kowtow to this pampered family hoping it would get them an honor

Yes she lived to 96 came on the throne young, following her father's untimely death, that's not the achievement that it portrayed, afterall people who haven't lived a life of privilege and wealth born before her are still alive

The same people in the "huge crowds" who were only too happy to condemn the same family for the treatment of their "people's princess" It a XFactor culture we live in

It is a ridiculous decision. Cancelling kids playing sport is beyond belief. My sisters club is getting them all together anyway for a fun training session which is great. Why do they think cancelling football is showing respect to the queen? Showing respect to the queen is honoring a minutes silence and actually being nice to each other for a weekend. Thankfully my local cricket is on and I'll watch that instead.
Saddleworth olympics is on as I text....

It’s actually mad the amount of grown men in this thread moaning about a weekends football being cancelled. Is your life that dumbed down and devoid of anything else that a game being postponed affects you so much?
Yes it does.

City are way way more important to me than the Queen was. She has never Impacted my life directly. I don't book time off work to watch her galavanting around the commonwealth and I don't spend my hard earned cash on anything for her.

City on the other hand is quite the opposite.

Looking at the pubs last night which I went into and the city centre certainly wasn't a place of mass mourning. Everyone going about their lives as normal. And so should the footballing world.

The FA and the authorities have got this wrong. Stopping kids from having a game of football is madness.

Vague nonsense about respect?

One day you (or anyone) will want respect for your personal loss or grief, even from the people you don't like, we would all expect that.

I just think you can't expect respect if you can't give it.

A lot of people are actually mourning the loss, a day of no football doesn't cost anything but it does respect the occasion. As boring as it is .
It isn't just ONE day though...

Re Cascarino:
People are relying on food banks and that clown is throwing good food in the bin. He's a moron.

That was my first thought, what a waste of food.

No fear lads Luke Shaw has just located Cascarino's bin.

Idiotic comment.

I do wonder when people those comments about us wanting football on are either retired or get paid regardless of working ir not.

Thankfully City are paying their matchday staff. But some workers are going to be out if pocket along with small companies providing the food etc.

It’s been postponed not cancelled. So they will get the income on the day when the game is rescheduled.
Come on man.

A late Summer Saturday tea time game does not compare to some shitty midweek in winter when most rack up last minute and loads stay at home.

Barely a domestic ball gonna be kicked before Christmas now, stop start, stop start, fuckin madness.

Who's seen the massive reduction to S/T prices across all PL Clubs for this massively inconvenienve season, me neither!

Not to mention the Crammed in CL schedule.

Taking the piss out of fans.

I understand this perspective but severe weather cancellation and this are not the same.

One is a reasonable measure to protect the public’s safety and is accepted as necessary but nearly all involved.

The other is an arbitrary measure that protects no one from anything, except perhaps the PL/FA from having to finally confront the behaviour of Liverpool supporters at Anfield.
+1

The cricket season is nearing its end and is difficult to rearrange games due to weather issues in September, can’t speak for racing but I guess the horses are prepared for races weeks in advance so that’s an issue. I don’t think comparing what each sport chooses to do is the correct way to look at it. Also, the football authorities did canvas opinion from the clubs and went with the majority view, I understand. Seems fair to me.
This is nonsensical though.

India buggered off home last summer with Covid, setting a precedent.

England could have postponed the test and played it again next summer.

Agreed - I do think the FA and PL have completely misread the situation yet again. The monarchy and Gov stated that games could go ahead - indeed the scenes at West Ham were very moving and I suspect if they had thought about it as adults and allowed games to continue it would have been a much better tribute seeing an outpouring of respect and condolences in packed grounds up and down our nation.

This is not an argument about if you support the monarchy or if you prefer to be a republican it's solely about a group of old duffers, who constantly make stupid decisions in some vain attempt to be relevant. Our national game is the envy of the world yet it is overseen by a group of out of touch muppets.

We know Liverpool fans would be disrespectful, yet still enjoy another possible day off work but they are a breed apart and if we all had our way the entire City would be cut off and pushed into the Irish Sea.

Personally I am sad that our Queen has passed but for the love of God to cancel games, games where most (Liverpool shite apart) could show respect is beyond stupidity. Don't get me started on cancelling grass roots stuff - The Queen herself would have wanted to see youngsters running around in the fresh air rather than stuck in front of glass screens, wide eyed and trance like.

So in summary do F*** O** the governing bodies that run our most cherished game, this was a bad call but one of many and there is no way anyone can tell me differently.
the mass hysteria following Diana's death will not be repeated. for many reasons
own goal by the die hard royalists i m o
