2022 World Cup Discussion

I’ve had a tickle on Germany at 11s. They ain’t great but nearly double the price of England, which doesn’t seem right. Partially explained by them being in the same group as Spain and a probable clash with Belgium in the last 16 if they finish runners up. They’re in the opposite half of the draw to Brazil and Argentina if they win their groups though, so will look a very big price IF they can get scrape through to the last eight.

Hearing on the radio Kane will be wearing a Rainbow captains armband in England’s next game and also at the World Cup
That might not go down to well over there

Another thread that falls into the "if you can't say something nice, say nothing" for me.

And then I'll say something, I'll watch some of it, hope our City lads get back fit and curse the bent fuckers for having it in that heat, the backhanders and fucking up what's important in football....our season.

Joke tournament with a load of pundits and journalist going over getting well paid for turning there back on the BLM issues ............ as for England they won’t do a thing while Southgate is at the helm .......... a better manager would have seen us standing as European and World champions he will no doubt Fook this one up

I'll watch every second of it otherwise Mrs Gaz might drag me bastard Christmas shopping.

Looking forward to the moral compasses of Delaney et al being tested and the mental gymnastics they'll perform to excuse them being in Qatar, cunts

I see the Netherlands as dark horses for the latter stages, and Portugal will do well I think. England will get another stroke of luck with the results from other games and march on to the semi finals where they will lose again. Southgate needs to accept England will struggle to dominate possession in the majority of knockout games and that they'll most likely conceded so he has to face into that by having enough pace and attacking talent to go and win games. Don't pick 4 or 5 right backs, pick 2 unless you want to play a back three and then pick 3. The current squad looks incredibly weak.

It’s a no from me I won’t be watching it ,and yes it’s a moral stand point. Official Qatar government figures “ only 37 lives lost during construction “ thousands lost during since the date they got awarded it. Horrific how this can go on. Blood money for us and fifa I’ll put my tin hat on for reply’s but at least I have one shame the migrant workers never had one.

Sir Harry is going to wear a rainbow armband as a token of support the LGBTQ+ community and protest against the local government.

Isn't that the kind of thing you don't announce before you get there. Just in case they find a way to not allow you in the country?

It will be a great tournament riddled with mistakes from tired players. I think England will flop because the back four is past its peak and Southgate has lost the plot. I think Portugal will probably win it. Good news for Bernardo, Diaz, and Cancelo.
Agree with all that bar tired players. Players should be at their prime fitness wise. April and May however …..

What's the logic for the players being more tired in December then they would be after a full season?

Oh yeah I can just see it now. "England captain denied entry into Qatar after LGBTQ stance".

That's just the kind of positive stories Qatar wants coming out of the world cup.

World Cup qualifying needs a bit of a rework IMO. Italy is a top 10 side and yet due to poor performance in key games isn't participating. Meanwhile, in leagues such as CONCACAF, you've got a bunch of inferior sides participating to make up the numbers. Let's just have the best sides competing... if it's necessary to grant very weak leagues spots - limit them to 1 or at most 2.

It's not coming home.

What are the odds on the home nation winning it?

This sounds similar to the argument we all hate that traditional big clubs should be given a free pass into the Champions League.

Italy haven’t qualified because they couldn’t beat sides like Northern Ireland, Lithuania and North Macedonia. They don’t deserve to be there.

I want to see a World Cup that is exactly that. Representatives from all parts of the football world. I don’t want to see a re-run of the Euros plus Brazil and Argentina.

I've no problem at all that teams qualify on the merit.

My complaint is that very weak leagues such as CONCACAF field multiple teams. Italy is far better than the USA or Mexico or any other team in CONCACAF.

More games between leagues should be required in order to adequately seed each league - and then each league should be allotted qualifiers based on league strength except that every league is guaranteed at least one side in the WC - and the host is guaranteed a spot too.

As it is - too many sides from weaker leagues participate at the expense of far better teams.

I suppose that this sort of seeding exists somewhat currently - but it's broken IMO to the detriment mostly of European sides where so many good teams exist to compete for too few qualification spots.
