Night Jack. Opinions hey? The forum would be a quieter place without them.

Did OK against a dirty Copenhagen team , he drew a lot of fouls and was always occupying at least three of their players when he had the ball , and he hardly gave the ball away ,different player this season.

Absolutely despise the Grealish/Mahrez partnership. It does nothing for either of them. Grealish is a better footballer than Mahrez. Mahrez is a better goalscorer than Grealish. Putting them together makes me dislike them both. It’s horrible to watch.

Wouldn't it be better to hold the ball and pass to another City player rather than win a foul? I think Jack has all the skills but still thinks he is at Villa where winning a free kick leads to a lap of honour. I think he could be a great player but he needs to change his game quickly. He reminds me of Rodney Marsh who was technically brilliant but never fitted in at City.

I like the balance of Grealish left, Foden right.

Foden left, Mahrez right also works pretty well.

But Foden can't play all the time and that means sometimes we get Grealish left, Mahrez right, and the balance of that is off.

Grealish left, Alvarez right might work, but I don't think we're likely to see it often.

Anyway, thought Jack did pretty well tonight. Tough match all over the pitch once we were down to 10 men but his ball retention helped us get out of a passage of play where we kept giving it away. Looked to drive forward when he could but limited options ahead of him because of the red card.

The partnership with Cancelo still isn't fully comfortable, they occupy the same positions a lot, but I could see him adapting to that on the pitch, moving infield when Cancelo went wide. It's not intuitive yet but give it time.

Had to be taken off when he was though as along with KDB he looked knackered.

Tonight we were a man down and ball retention/ possession was more important , he has been good this season and has taken on players , he has changed his game this season and Pep has started him in plenty of games '
Totally different player to Marsh , he played when he wanted to , he was mesmerising at times but only on his terms.

Grealish was clearly instructed to hold the ball as long as possible today because we were one man down.
His pass success rate was 100% until the very last minutes before he was subbed.

I hope you are right. But I want to see more from Jack. I want him to stay on his feet and start hurting teams properly.

Did nothing special, did nothing badly, got kicked a lot with no protection.
TBH Almost all our movement cross the half way lane between the red card and 75min sub - were either from some Grealish/KDB foul or Grealish ball carrying. Only way to keep the ball and move up the pitch - except some random Dias carrying. KDB's shot in the 2nd half came from a good turn by Grealish. But arguably he could make the final pass a bit better. Cannot blame him because he was clearly exhausted.

I wonder if we should put Foden on for Alvarez earlier to come back to F9 system more like last year. Alvarez was threw into a very difficult situation and did not know how to get involved at times. Heard that Foden was not feeling well enough though.

Even though we bought Haaland, while watching City games I still have the feeling that Jack is the most "expected" player, I mean I still wait something magical to happen from him.. And I always had this feeling for Jesus or Nasri (but Nasri did that in 2013 / 2014...) or Balotelli or Jovetic or Robinho.. :D

Maybe that's because Haaland in 2-3 months already established himself and proved everything, Jack still hasn't played his best football and we are waiting..

And that's because of his potential.. TBF he plays very good football, sometimes there are simple mistakes and his defensive abilities aren't best either, but those dribbles, passes, movements and etc. are truly world-class and what he lacks is end-product -> goals after dribbles, assists after dribbles, so that he brought more in terms of statistics, so that he was stable in that department as well..

Other than that he is is perfect number 10..

The only player that needed 2 full seasons and only after that started showing his true abilities, during recent years is Mahrez.. 18 / 19 and 19 / 20 weren't best, but 20 / 21 and 21 / 22 were great, last year he scored and assisted more than the others ones. Maybe that will be the case for Jack ? Cause I really see improvement from last year.

I think you know fuck all.

I think he's been in his best form since joining us but last night was a bit of a nothing performance. Not a criticism, just one of those games.

What I'm interested in is how he'll do against Liverpool. Trent seems to be getting worse and worse defensively and his positioning and tracking back is fucking awful.

I'd be tempted to start Phil on that side because he's got the speed to utilise that weakness to his advantage. Jack's style of playing in front of the defender doesn't seem like the best way of exploiting the space.

I guess we'll see.
