I know. The La Touquet agreement with France effectively puts the UK border in France, so processing applications there makes sense and those that are successful can come to the UK safely.
At the some point the Govt will have to do this, because the current situation of around 30,000 people pitching up on our beaches risking life and limb - not to mention the strain this puts in the RNLI and others who have to rescue those in trouble - is absurd.
Our current policy is to employ increasingly hysterical rhetoric and demand ‘something be done’ but not, it seems, the one thing that would actually work.
