Looks like he's back to full training now & hopefully available for the weekend.

Watching yesterday and the continued mileage Gundogan, de Bruyne, and Bernardo clocked up, I couldn’t help think we really need more legs in the midfield. Looking at the fixtures after the break, however, it’s hard to see him playing any significant role until perhaps February.

Great news, needs to start earning his coin now.

Any more problematic injuries in the near future and surely a decision needs to be made.

Was proper excited by his signing and it’s just dwindled completely because of his injuries. Especially considering he’s hardly played.

Hopefully they’re all behind him now and he can kick on. The midfielders who have been playing need rests, particularly Rodri if we’re to go deep into the CL.

He's on the Monday Night Club on 5live tonight from 730pm for half n hour, should be interesting.
He spoke really well.
Said he thought he could play but turned up at City and realised that he 'had work to do!'
They asked if he was nervous before his first training session. He said, 'No!' but was nervous after it because he realised how good everyone was.
Basically thought he'd been bought to challenge Rodri but Pep told him he was there to challenge all the midfielders.

Yeah he sounds a really down to earth lad who has his family to support him and keep him grounded.

Really hope he has a great 2nd half to the season.

I think that's what it's like for a lot of the players and they can try too hard initially. After a while they realise it's doing the simple things consistently well that Pep wants to see and then they settle in and play more naturally. Phillips can cover for Rodri or play alongside him. He's a lot more dynamic and a front foot player. The main thing for him to adapt to is our control of possession. At Leeds he would snap in, win the ball and then look to play it forwards quickly. He can do that if he's alongside Rodri and further up the pitch, but if he's in the CDM role he'll need to concentrate on playing the simple pass more often than not. He's got the ability to do it but it's the mental strength too. Lovely lad though.

Good to see him back on the pitch. Understandably off the pace and that cameo should put paid to any speculation about him going to the World Cup. Lad needs game time off the bench for us, probably up to March, but should prove invaluable when we get to the business end of the season.

Good to see him get some minutes and hopefully he will be injury free for the second half of the season. Fingers crossed he gets picked in the England squad tomorrow.

Thought he looked decent tbh

It was a decent cameo but he got caught out of position a few times, enthusiasm taking him ahead of the ball, and he was left for dead at one point when chasing back. That’s not criticism, just the lack of sharpness and fitness you would expect from a player returning after a sustained lay off. If he’s named in England’s World Cup squad, it would be a simply ridiculous decision and one based on past sentiment not the current reality, as he is nowhere near ready.

No I agree he wasn’t faultless, but under the circumstances I was impressed how much he did do and could fit in. It’s not just a return from injury, it’s that he’s played so few minutes for us period, never mind the injury.

Re England selection I’m not sure waistcoat sees things your way, and I reckon it’s 60/40 he’ll be in the squad - anyway, we’ll know tomorrow!
