Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

Loads of tourists around me yesterday, I thought I was in the wrong block at first. They're okay but they do like to bloody film everything. There were three sat together and when Mahrez took the penalty all three were filming it, which I thought was hilarious.

I thought it was quite flat in 101 yesterday overall. I couldn't hear much from the south stand, the only song I could make out was the Chelsea fans singing "Champions of Europe". Our support in the south stand sounds louder when the away support is split over three levels in my opinion.

First half wasn’t great.
There was singing, but also total silence and quiet.
Second half was better, more singing, but the same songs. Come on City, We’re not really here, Follow, Follow, etc.
The atmosphere got better towards the end of the match when both fans were giving it to each other. Banter! Bottom half of SSL1 were looking up at the Chelsea fans and giving them loads of stick. The same in 111 and 110.
Didn’t look to see if the City fans in the SSL1 away section were singing or not. They were sat down at the start of the match.
111 and 110 were good. Better than than SSL1 at times.
One thing I did notice, I could hear 111 and 110 clearly singing, with SSL1 joining in with them at times. Shows both singing groups can sing together if there are no away fans splitting them up. One for the North stand and a new singing section??
Now that standing right at the back of 115 has been stopped by the club, stewards now standing in that area, hardly any chants are being started from there.
Good to see the Poznan back in SSL1 and 111 and 110. Shame it didn’t spread around the ground. Previously it would have. Hmmm.

Good post in the main, but you talk about our atmosphere like it’s a problem.

In general, after we’ve come out of the back of lockdowns, our atmospheres at the Etihad have been much better than they were before lockdowns and about the best they’ve been since the FA Cup and Premier League wins under Mancini.

We only really now have a problem with our atmosphere in the range of songs we sing (just the same few songs over and over all the time and such a lack of proper City chants, there was one game - think it was Sevilla at home - where the word ‘City’ was only chanted once in the entire game), games like Brentford and Everton where our fans didn’t get behind the team when we needed to most (even though we did against Fulham in exactly the same situation - 1-1 late in the game pushing for a winner), and Group Stage CL games where our support treat them the same as an EFL Cup third round game against Yeovil.

Other than that, there’s been much more of a buzz around the Etihad in the last 18 months and our atmosphere has been good to brilliant in a lot of games. Even at 0-2 down against Palace this season the ground was up for it.

The other problem are posters in this thread who don’t even live in Britain never mind ever go to the Etihad coming on this thread and telling us our atmosphere is shit, we have too many fans living in the past and we need to embrace a change (that nobody I know and my group of City mates and family members who go range from 21 years old to 75 wants).

The Everton atmosphere was absolutely pathetic last week, but it was very much in the minority over the last 18 months.

to me the atmosphere isnt a problem, I am not the best writer in the world therefore i might be giving the wrong impression.

i want the singing to be louder and better, back the team up, its what i go to the games for

i had to tv watch, its usual on there and it only picks up tier 3 and just odd bits of tier one so all you could hear was cheslea singing " is this a libary"

tv tried to show the poznan but picked up on it late as always when fans had turned back round !

The uncomfortable truth about yesterday is that the atmosphere went up about five levels once the Chelsea fans started chucking drinks at us. Beyond that, it was standard English cup tie stuff: the Chelsea fans outsung us for the first 20 minutes, once they'd burned themselves out and conceded we had pockets that built in the game, the first ten minutes in the second half were shite etc

I always hope for a ref who makes a shit decision early doors and an opposition set of fans who start acting like cunts… we have a good atmosphere when those things happen.

One thing I'd love to see change is Blue Moon before games. Either play the whole song, which I'm sure most of us know the words to, or play it once then just play the music (slower) to let it go around the ground so it's the fans you hear. I hate how it ends with the happy clapping fast part, which we'd never sing otherwise and which ends to it fizzling out and complete silence before fans start the next song. You want the anthem to ring around the ground and end in feeling completely pumped up. It just doesn't work having the quick version which inevitably leads to silence.

Or stop doing blue moon and do hey jude and let that ring round.

The whole idea is to get everyone singing. Having the music helps people feel confident about joining in, then you could cut that so it's just the fans which gets the goosebumps going and you want to leave it so that it flows into more singing. As I said, the current setup just leads to the fast part where it just fizzles out.

I’ve been begging for this for a long time. The fast version is cringeworthy. Reminds me of fucking goal celebration music.

Cut the music after a few seconds and trust the fans to do the job. Even our quiet ones have shown they’re capable of singing Blue Moon for 30 seconds!

To be fair @trevorriley has lobbied the club on this issue, but said it fell on deaf ears sadly.

The club is trying to orchestrate an atmosphere they should leave it to the fans to orchestrate their own atmosphere organically.

In 20 or so years they will have the crowd singing adverts for products they are sponsoring.

As others have said, we've asked for that to happen for years on here, but the club won't and don't listen, and they still play it.

Sometimes I wonder if it's worth having threads like this as the club don't take any notice of honest feedback.

They should at least trial it for a short period of time to see if it makes any difference at all.

Hi mate, have the club given any indication as to why they won’t consider changing it?

Like you say, they could at least trial it!

Considering Pep was on here before we played Chelsea away and took the absolute piss out of us, I'm sure he'll have mentioned it!
