Fair play to you mate. Hope everyone else who was wrong pops in to accept the fact he’s a really important part of our team
Most weren’t wrong though. Most posts are an evaluation of the most recent game or recent form, so those saying that he wasn’t good enough at the time he wasn’t good enough weren’t wrong unless they said he’d never be good enough.

I was massively critical of him every week for months. My main gripes were that he wasn’t anywhere near aggressive enough, he was too nice and too laidback and that meant he didn’t have enough of an effect on games and didn’t do enough defensively. I don’t think any of that was wrong at the time I said it.

Lots and lots of people said this.

To clarify, as my post was certainly clumsily worded. I do completely understand your point

I’ve always thought he’s played alright & fit well in the team, but agree about him being somewhat passive previously. He’s certainly upped his game & seems to be playing like he belongs here now, so I don’t think my opinion was too dissimilar to yours

However, some people wanted him selling back to Villa for a packet of smarties & a conker. If that were my opinion, I’d 100% be posting that it’s great he’s proved me wrong

I suppose I just don’t like one of our own being attacked by our own supporters & some certainly attacked him

To the question of 'is it an upturn in form or a sign that he is settling into his position', I would say it is both. He admits in interviews that he was not at his best early doors, but is now finding his feet more. Modern football fans want it all now. There seems to be no time or patience for the development of a player or a dip in form of the squad.
It is what it is. Football has always been so. Already there are fans flapping about team selection for Forest after watching a champions-like performance at Arsenal. Que sera!!!

Phil was the best player in our team consistently, even with KDB 18 months ago. Its dropped off since then. I think we all want Phil to get back to where he was - but you couldn't justify swapping him for grealish right now.
Get Phil in on the right BEFORE Mahrez drops off again. Because if Riyad keeps playing this much its inevitable. He's had a great stretch and return to form but I'm sensing he could do with a blow right about now...

Phil Foden is like a generational talent, BallonDor type player..

Jack is just Jack and we all love him.. <3

I mean, look at Foden's stats even now, he is having his worst season and still has 3 times more contribution, than Jack :D If we analyse this by game time and given minutes, than the difference becomes more obvious..

The main mistake was, that when you have Phil Foden of 20 / 21 and he does amazing season as a LW - signing 100M player on the same position doesn't make any sense. For this purpose Phil had to play False9, RW and other positions and he lost his stable position, but had a great season anyway last year as well..

Every player has his ups and downs. Even Kev, even Haaland, even Bernardo, but rarely Pep leaves them out of starting 11. Phil deserved same attitude and most importantly his regular position, where he belongs and knows he plays..

I am very happy for Jack and like it was mentioned - one of the most improved players of this season.. (Cause there is AKE as well for example and Rodri made a huge step forward..). But I don't like the fact that one of our best and influential players like Foden, has his worst season so far...

I understand Pep needs and wants to justify that 100m and he is doing perfect job for that, but question is why we needed Jack, when we had Phil Foden on that exact same position.. Cause if we compare, more logical was to sign someone like that on Ryad's position.. Phil was phenomenal and KEY player in our success, our offensive play regressed a lot since Sane left and Phil was the player who turned around that situation.
SIMPLE...get Phil back in the mix on the right.

One of our best players after the WC.

Foden should compete with Mahrez for the other place in the attack. We play many ganes anyway, they'll be enough minutes for any of the players.
Agree 1000%...

Truly, it is the case, just as it has been for other players too. If it was just about what you say, then few would have a problem with it. However, the posts, by some, have been inflammatory, unwarranted, and personal. It isn't difficult: support the players until they leave, or if they have harmed the club with their words or actions.

Here is just one post of many:
His undersized shorts, pulled down socks and ponsey haircut says everything about him. An absolute pre-madonna who is proving to make the money spent on Jo and RSC look like sale of the century. Against Watford his appalling finishing made Grealish their best defender. He even managed to block a goal bound shot. Today, he was useless yet again and his inability to miss an empty goal from 6 yards (He's a £100m player remember!) is beyond the joke. What the likes of Palmer must be thinking watching Grealish is anyone's guess!
It looks to me like someone wasn't getting any, LMFAO...

Class today. We actually lack players that just play calm in the tight situations. Jack got the ball in so many dead ends yet every time he finds a way out. And it’s these situations, where he attracts multiple players to himself, that creates space for KDB… IF Jack can find the solution out of the trap he’s in. And he did. Every time.

And that’s his whole game plan - he attracts players to him and is (recently, especially) so good at picking the right moment to take them on or recycle the ball.

Worked a treat on Wednesday because he was aggressive with the ball, all that’s needed really because I can’t actually think of a time he’s been dispossessed- just taken them on or won a foul. Either way we retain possession.

There was one poster that seemed to spend all day on this thread slagging Jack off. Assume he is giving this thread a swerve now.

We just have to learn to give players time. Some of the same posters are now in the Phillips thread, or the Gomez thread, and these players have barely featured: it is way too early to judge them in any way, positively or negatively, so just give them time.

We do not play a simplistic style of football, nor do we play a style that is played widely elsewhere, so we are often talking of players coming to a new team, in a new country, a new league, an unfamiliar style of play and new tactics. Imagine having to learn all of that, as well as to integrate your family into a new culture and home, while under the microscope of the Premier League. It surely isn't a lot to ask for the fans of your own club to give you every chance possible to become a success, especially after the number of examples that we have seen of players taking a full season to begin to show how good they are.

My OCD is not happy with this thread title, where is the vertical line that's in every other title?

I was hugely critical of him last season and the early part of this, he was hugely underwhelming.

Since the WC he look a different player, a player who now believes he belongs in this team, the difference is night and day much to his credit.

He still has much more to improve on, creation and scoring have to improve but he is a player who has become a huge part of our team.
