The worst thing tonight was that he playing the big man up top really well, won 5 or 6 headers from long balls. Even then he was given absolutely nothing to work off.

Thought he was going to be a game changer when we signed him but especially away from home his lack of involvement mean it’s like playing with 10 men. We either adapt, and we’ve had over half a season to do that, or try something different that doesn’t involve him, eg revert to false 9

What is so frustrating to see is on occasions it was easy to play the ball through to the lad but in one instance Jack took the ball the width of the pitch instead of putting a cross in.

I don’t think inverted wingers is necessarily the problem. It’s more our inverted wingers that are the issue. Grealish and Mahrez don’t work. Both have their positives, I mean it’s hard to argue with Mahrez form since the WC and Grealish is arguably in his best form since he came to the club. However, as wide forwards as providers for Haaland, they are both fucking useless and it won’t change because it’s exactly how they both play. Want the best out of Haaland? Grealish and Mahrez can’t play wide. If KDB isn’t playing, we might as well drop Haaland and play with a false 9.

I was over the moon when we landed both Haaland and Alvarez. Most of us were. We must have been the envy of every other club In Europe.

With hindsight, I can only assume it was to stop anyone else getting them as we are showing little clue or desire to use them properly.
