The Conservative Party

Unless we have a Bank of England thread, here goes:

Given the effect of Brexit on inflation is a Tory thing (farmers not got workers so more food imports, hospitality with a million vacancies and having to pay staff more), and the global impact of war isn’t easy to control, can anyone explain the BoE governor's idea that businesses should curb price rises to stave off inflation? "If you didn't raise prices, inflation would be lower." No shit, Sherlock. But if interest rates go up, business debt repayments go up, so that's another cost to make businesses put up prices.

Simply, if interest rate rises are to depress demand, wouldn't high prices because of Ukraine and Brexit policy do that anyway without high interest rates doing it more? Or is the aim to depress demand to the extent that no-one has any money, pubs and restaurants close and we have more people unemployed?

Oh, it seems he's worried about excess profits by firms that now have less European competitors because of Brexit!

This is modern day Conservatism as espoused by the likes of Braverman, but who said it?

Raising the prices of imported veg hurts people........me raising interest rates doesn't. Heard yesterday someone on a tracker mortgage is on average paying nearly £400 a month more than they were in December..... have bags of carrots gone up by a similar amount of are they just cheeky cunts

Pretty sure that's Benny boy, not the Blue Moon one, the Italian one. A man who was very well versed on how to use oratory and all facets of the media to whip up nationalist fervour in support of his plans.

Governor of the Bank was pleading with companies not to put their prices up but is as clear as mud on explaining what they should do instead.

I’ve mentioned before that inflation dropping to the level they are predicting by the end of the year, 2.9%, seems unrealistic. Inflation is already lower in the Netherlands than the U.K., and dropping, yet they think it will only be down to below 3% in 2024.

Very important it safeguards the rights of the people to hang shit leaders from lampposts as well.

Hmm, so we should be concerned when Braverman tries legislating for the abolition of lampposts. Got it, thanks.
Not her, she doesn't deserve the rope. She should be brought out to the middle of the Atlantic and set adrift in one of those plastic dinghies she's so obsessed with.

He was already long dead when they strung him up in Milan, he was actually summarily executed not too far from Lake Como. I took a detour to visit the street where he was shot the last time we were on hoilday there. The wife and kids think I'm odd but I like to visit minor historical locations as well as big ones, especially when they are pretty much the same as they would have been at the time.

When Angela Rainer described them as ‘Tory scum’ I thought, at the time, she was being maybe a little too abrasive and unparliamentary in her language.
Now I think she was being quite truthful and honest and rather kind to them.
Just think, that’s probably higher than most peoples wage, just on one element of her expenses.

Ah well, we accept the standards we walk past.

There is a tide of bad news now - be it on ITV News SKY news GMB, or for their own agenda GeeBeeBees or Talk TV leaving the BBC as something as an outlier pointing out issues - poverty foodbanks interest rate rises unemployment is rising food prices are rising fuel prices are rising taxes at an all time high since WW2 - an embargo has been broken and they are going to be hung drawn and quartered in the " Court of Public Opinion" before an GE ....... as is Johnson after this week - they can dream but they are fucked

This Covid slush fund of 1 billion still unaccounted for, we all know where it is sitting in the ERG and several other tory offshore accounts.

I haven't seen such corruption in single government before, I mean they cover all the bases, nepotism, kickbacks, embezzlement, bribery, patronages etc.
