Ref Watch

Incorrect.
Tony from Timperley and Michael Oliver were both refs in Qatar.
In fact it's quite impressive when UEFA had just 8 refs from 6 countries and 2 were from England.
No German refs at all.

And from 14 linesman, 4 were English.

UEFA
Referees
1. Michael Oliver (ENG)
2. Anthony Taylor (ENG)
3. Antonio Mateu Lahoz (ESP)
4. Stephanie Frappart (FRA)
5. Clement Turpin (FRA)
6. Daniele Orsato (ITA)
7. Danny Makkelie (NED)
8. Szymon Marciniak (POL
Fair enough, I didn't know that. How many were in Russia?

Also are you implying that our refs are the best and we wouldn't benefit from recruiting the best refs worldwide?

I await the linesman's 8 match suspension, with the FA pushing for a longer one, to be announced tomorrow

Consistency, right, Mr. Webb?

Mark Clattenburg was down to ref in Russia but resigned as a ref to work in Saudi Arabia - he was not replaced with another English ref.

No i wasnt saying our refs are the best, just countering your comment about the world cup showing our refs are miles off being world class, when we produced the ref for the final!

After months and months of debating fairly and rationally , constantly stating the pros AND cons , pointing out where it needs massive improvement and ways to improve VAR but standing by that I would rather VAR in place in the game than without it

It was clear the only opinion your allowed on here is ‘It’s all corrupt , football is finished ‘

So I bowed out this thread much to delight of many posters including yourself - and it’s amusing you all tag me whenever there’s controversy, so basically hounded out for debating fairly yet you lot want my opinions when it suits

For what it’s worth - there’s no defending the decisions yesterday against Brighton, utter shambles
Whilst wishing to play the ball and not the man, you are somewhat glossing your record on VAR with this. You are a massive advocate of it. Fair enough. Even you, given the head of referees is apologising for it ruining games virtually every week, must now be prepared to say it needs to be removed and fully overhauled before reintroduction. Or do we keep letting it ruin games?

because in Rodri's case the ball hit his arm above the t-shirt line, which was the rule at the time, the rule was then changed to shoulder. Brighton's two goals were correctly ruled out, no arguments there, but they should have had at least one penalty and most likely another one as well. This is the controversial thing about the game as the first one was a nailed on penalty that VAR should be giving in it's sleep.
Shoulder?

HANDLING THE BALL

"For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit."

(Or top of the armpit if you're doing a bicycle kick? It's a nonsense definition - how far down is "the bottom of the armpit" compared to just "the armpit"?)

Mitoma goal ball hits his shoulder, tbats because of the push in his back, if u dissallow the goal for a handball then it should have been a penalty.

Ali mac hits his thigh, nothing clear saying it hits his hand.

Right, so what good is saying we got it wrong and mistakes were made ? SORRY ? you should not be making mistakes with VAR because you sold it to football clubs and fans that it will clear up the (clear and obvious error) that could lead to relegation or winning the title or places for Europe,

we are not just talking about BIG money here, managers, players, owners' futures are on the line here,
then you have the fan's emotions, it's not a game of FIFA football you can just start again,

SO PGMOL how are you going to clear this mess up ? Give Brighton a couple of soft calls in the next game, sorry you can not do that, change the result, again you are not going to do that, replay the game again you're not going to do that,

I know just come out and say sorry and everything will be ok,
Funny how it's never in games that you have to answer to United or Liverpool, I Wonder why

PGMOL is Bent to the core and we know who controls them
This is the 3rd time Webb has had to Apologise to Brighton this season.

I think they’re going to have to ban the linesman.

For this to happen the week Mitrovic gets banned and for nothing to happen to the official would really, really piss off the players. PFA is a shit Union but even they would manage something.

He literally elbows him, and it’s pretty much unprovoked.
Robertson put his hands on him and tried to pull him back, the linesman shrugged him off in annoyance and caught him on the chin (although Robertson is now claiming he got hit in the throat, make of that what you will). I think Robertson got a yellow and they'll leave it at that unless he or Liverpool start chatting shite, in which case they may upgrade it :)

Just watched the highlights. Anyone who thinks our game is not bent need to watch this match and explain how they came to these decisions. This game is exactly why we needed var in the first place. I'm sorry we made 4 or 5 mistakes all against the same team just does not wash with me. Bent as fuck. Sorry for any Brighton fans on here, but come your semi final, unfortunately i think you can expect the same again, maybe even worse.
This is my worry for the semi final.

Another thing i dont want is for a ref to try and even it up by giving us a dodgy decision at the Expense of another team, just scrap VAR.

Bottom of the armpit or what's is commonly called the shoulder.

This shows you why the Brighton goal was correctly ruled out

My own opinion on the Mitoma incident was that it was handball. What I don’t agree with is the linesman getting involved from 30 yards away to disallow it. Under the way the current system is applied, the goal should have been given, gone to var, and stood on the grounds of it not being a clear and obvious error. That’s where we are with the bastardised version of var that’s been foisted and on us and seeks to protect officials before the integrity of the game. Amazing the officials and var couldn’t get involved in or see the penalty incidents. Attests to their incompetence and pgmol’s self-interest.
